MA still has to make it official. Asmfc rec’d 28-31 but states work individually. I think ma will go 28-31 but not 100% they’d do it this year. NJ does whatever the fuck they want anyway

    New England Striper Conditions?

I really don’t understand the state to state differences on a migratory fish. Then again, I also don’t get why commercial size limits (of almost any fish) are typically less restrictive than recreational (at least in NY).
It’s really confusing. MA commercial is 35’’+.

This finally feels like some progress in the right direction. Around here there are tons of 25-35’’ fish, quite a few that are larger but smaller schoolies are rare. I don’t think there’s been a great spawning year since ‘18 and those are probably that 24-26’’ class fish.

Gotcha. MA probably will. NJ was the only state to vote against the emergency measures.

My layman’s understanding is that this emergency measure will also bring an end to conservation equivalency, Maryland trophy harvest in ‘24, and bring pressure to change commercial regs. But that’s just based on an American Saltwater Guides Association podcast wrap up on the events.

The fish are really active around Boston right now, this season feels 10-14 days ahead of schedule. They fought a lot harder than the fish from 4/26, guessing that one was a holdover.

Pretty sure this is the elephant in the room regarding stripers.

Got into them pretty good south side cape and buzz bay the last 2 nights and mornings. Up to 36” but consistent 28+. Ton of bait. Everything all sizes. Back bay outflows

Nice, I haven’t gotten into that class of fish yet but I’m sure they’re around. Been mostly fooling around in daytime/sunset, small estuary / back bay outflows and my biggest was ~27’’.

flights booked, Cape bound 7/21-30, not the most ideal time for chasing migrators, but dad is moving to a permanent place in Mashpee, so looking to explore some new water a bit farther east! Anyone got some boat space

Ya I got spots for you. May be more bluefish than stripers around that time (unless you’re nocturnal). Shoot a PM lmk where he’s moving and I’ll give you some locales.

will do, for sure. I think I deleted your number but I'll find it in the PM's. GF's flying back the 25th so I'll have at least 4 days of fishing after she heads out (barring a trip to VT to see mom)

I found that class of fish out front on the rocks yesterday, the biggest ones were around 36-37‘’. Pretty sure I lost a bigger one too.

One day does not make a pattern but stripers were hard to come by off Montauk point yesterday. Blues on the other hand were plentiful.

Those are some big gator blues. Hearing the bite in Montauk has been really slow so far. That used to be the spot to be in May, now it might be Rhody?

Supposedly, the week prior was gangbusters.

Tomorrow looks to be a bust weather-wise. Here’s hoping for Sunday.

    SAT
NE winds 20 to 25 kt with occasional gusts up to 35 kt. Seas 4 to 7 ft, building to 6 to 8 ft in the afternoon. Showers likely, mainly in the morning.

    SAT NIGHT
NE winds 20 to 25 kt, diminishing to 15 to 20 kt after midnight. Gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 5 to 8 ft.

    SUN
N winds 15 to 20 kt, becoming NE 10 to 15 kt in the afternoon. Seas 3 to 6 ft.

    Great pics below!

New boater here and good new fishing gear is not in the budget this summer. If anyone has any older striper/tuna rods/reels they aren't using and are looking to sell for not too much please PM! Located North shore of MA.

No idea on patterns but the fishing has been real good around the cape. Bears Den on the way or Eastman’s in Falmouth when you’re here.

Got into a few 30+# this morning, one hooked directly in the last inch of the tail. Took a while to get her in against a 3knot current.

thanks! I'll hit you up after the fiance heads back to UT. Dropping her at Logan july 25, then on cape until the 30, Dad's gotta work a few days so I'll be much more free for fishing.
