Yeah, I'm not riding downhill all the time. Plenty of Rolling Hills and actual up hills on trail mixed in. They're just pedaling up a fire road to get to the top to ride a downhill track basically. I'm not saying I wouldn't love to own a bike like that, but I wouldn't use it all the time.

Similar to the difference between GX and X01/XX1 for 11-speed, around 1/2 pound (and $600-$800 less). Cranks are 50g lighter(!) than GX 1x11, derailleurs and cassette a bit heavier as you'd expect. Seems like a pretty solid value.

The weight & performance savings between SLX and XT drivetrain (not talking about whatever comes with your build kit), will be small steps. Bought by itself, it feels good to go with XT because it's supposed to be better, but most people hardly notice much difference. SLX is the benchmark of affordable with high quality. Going straight from those choices to Eagle is such a huge jump in price point. There are at least a couple levels of Sram stuff between XT and Eagle right now, price-wise and weight-wise.

All that said, drivetrain is the LAST place you should splurge on your build. Suspension first, wheels second, drivetrain third. Because the suspension basically makes the bike, and upgrading suspension is always expensive as ballz. And the wheels are a long term investment, if they come with nice hubs. Meanwhile, drivetrains are disposable wear items that can be replaced/upgraded piecemeal at any point in the process for "minimal" expense (relative to $6000 bike budgets).

Float 36 is definitely worth it. X2 is definitely worth it. Carbon wheels might be worth it if you have the coin, BUT only if you trust Ibis to stand behind their warranty. They will break. As soon as you decide whether either drivetrain was a good choice, it'll be broken and worn out.
