A Memory of Gregg that I will never forget: In 1983, or so, after Gregg broke up with Cher, he started dating my friend's cousin, Melodie. She lived in Deerfield Beach, FL. One evening, my friend picked me up at my house in Jupiter. He told me that I was in for a treat. We drove to Deerfield, and started partying at Melodie's house. About 1 hour later, Gregg and Melodie walk in. We hung out for about 5 hours, drinking, partying, yapping, and playing music. It was just the 4 of us, and it was bind blowing. Since that time, I have had the pleasure of seeing the Allman Bros. backstage quite a few times, but nothing compares to the first time that I spent time with Mr. Allman. R.I.P. Also, I grew up with, and remain very good friends with his manager, Michael Lehman.
Duane, Berry, and Butch have a singer now (and let's not forget Dangerous Dan)Last edited by schindlerpiste; 05-27-2017 at 03:16 PM.

Allman's so nailed the tone of the 70s original music.

Huge Peter Green fan. IMO one of the most underrated blues guitarists.

Man, I had forgotten that Butch had died recently, too. There was a point in my life where I had seen the Allman Bros. - late '90s version - more than any other band. They were always great.

My favorites of ABB's discography
The guys in that band lived hard. RIP Gregg

Knew this news wasn't that far off, but sure bummed me out when i heard it today. The Allmans were such a live thread running through my early days. Learned how to smoke weed while listening to them and picking seeds and stems out on their album cover. It wasn't just Southern Rock, it was the best damn rock. Dammit. Vibes to Devon and the family...Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

For me it was the three most killer tunes off Live At The Fillmore East - Hot 'Lanta, Elizabeth Reed, and Whipping Post.
Saw them in 1971 (iirc) on the Boston Commons. So good.

Very true. Lot of jazz and blues mixed in with the country/redneck rock. If you listen to today's jam bands (particularly Sound Tribe), you can't help but hear ABB
All great compositions. Always wanted to, but never got to see them. My little brother's favorite band
