Spring skiing has been going well, here in the Tetons. There's still plenty of coverage on slopes above 8,000'.

In fact, we were still skiing spring pow until just a week ago!

Yesterday, our group hiked 10,300' Taylor Mountain. This classic ski objective is accessible from a parking area on the west side of Teton Pass.

The mountain is reached by either bootpacking the narrow, western ridge or skinning via the gentler east ridge. We bootpacked the whole way.

Anyone who hikes Mt. Glory on a clear day can easily check out Taylor's big lines. The peak has a reputation of being somewhat avalanche prone, so I waited for spring to test it out.

Our approach was 2.5 hours long. With a departure at 7:30 a.m., we were skiing the 3,000' line by shortly after 10 a.m.

We started the descent in a gladed section on the south face. The corn had just started to soften, so the turns were fast!

Eventually, the terrain here narrows into a 50' wide, rocky canyon aptly called "The Poop Chute."

We skied on avalanche debris for the bottom 500' vert, and then onto dirt and pine needles.

In conclusion, I'd say conditions are right for skiing the more aggressive and aesthetically pleasing east face of this peak.

Nice TR! That last pic really shows how much snow is still up there in the high country. The TAY crowd should be pretty stoked this year.
