Knock it if you will but one of my favorite Christmas tunes was his cover of Ave Maria on one of those Very Special Christmas albums from the 90s.

Awesome display of his vocal talent.

I have shitload of bitd stories.
In 1981, I ran the kitchen at the Last Exit On Brooklyn, a coffeehouse by UW that was also a day care center for homeless and crazy.

At that time Artis used to busk with a guy named Crow.

Since The LEOB had the cheapest food in town those guys used to come in and count their change to buy food. Lots of days, I'd just pay for their soup and pb&j sandwiches out of my pay.

Crow was a dick, but Artis was always a good guy.

Spoonman was a fav of mine.

Some guys I knew from college had a band called Face Ditch that used to share bills with a bunch of the budding grunge bands at the Grey Door, Graven Image, Roscoe Louies or the Central circa 81-84. Their drummer was Matt Cameron for a few gigs before he ditched for SG.

    Strong, right?

I spoke with a buddy back in OH today that had tix to see them headline some big festival called Rock on the Range with Metallica and Korn the next 3 days in Columbus. I bet that becomes one giant memorial to him. I may have to log into social media again to see pics.

    This guy?

I used to see him back in the 90s, think, busking near the Left Bank bookstore (one of my two favorite bookstores in Seattle; the other being Elliot Bay Books)...not far from the bronze pig. The guy was pretty trippy. I'm sure he was flattered when SG made a song about him. I had no idea he was doing the same thing in the early 80s!!!!! Damn! I think he also busked the Space Needle area and Broadway.

Shit...now he's on Spotify and there is a wiki on him. Probably has a nice home in Greenlake by now. Lol. The guy is 68 and still busking!

He's obviously moved south half a block!

From reading the various articles the whole thing sounds strange. He was active on social media, looked great at the show the night before with no indications of weirdness. "He was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor" in his room at the MGM casino in Detroit with a "band around his neck". The perverted mind goes to some sort of auto-asphyxia sexual adventure gone bad. Such a bummer. Leaves 3 kids and a wife behind.

I knew all those guys way back when too. Blah blah blah.

Medical Examiner in Detroit just ruled it a suicide. Sad. Too damn much like Cobain. The two bands had so many parallels. And their two frontmen were just crazily talented....but I guess tormented by their own demons.

So many sucides of true creative geniuses. Hemingway stands out. I also have to put another genius up there too...Robin Williams...and just ask myself WHY?

^^^I'm not buying it. Technically a suicide? Probably. Something else in the mix? Probably.

Really sad. Depression is a bitch. From what I can gather, many brilliant, artistic and talented people deal with this affliction.

I hope he is at peace now.

Damn fine place for an artist!! Love that place!! Has a certain feel to it. I vaguely remember me and a friend throwing lit firecrackers into the garbage bin next to the police station one wild night...of course I might be wrong.

Ha! Last Exit on Brooklyn brings back some memories. It was right around the corner from the Dorm I lived in one year. Went in a few times. It was a lot newer back then.

Not saying Chris's death was drug or alcohol related - I have no idea, but the line "But fame don't take away the pain, it just pays the bills..." rings too fucking true.
Why must I feel like that, why must I chase the cat?

Just read that it was confirmed -- suicide by hanging.

Condolences to those close to him.
