What's so special about Gmail over Yahoo?
Hotmail obviously sucks so I use it as spam-bait because I hate Micro$hit.Balls Deep in the 'Ho

gmail used to be the only one to have mega-storage, but yahoo does now also.
For me, gmail is better cause you get free pop3 smtp access, which means I can email from cellphone/pda and also from outlook.
this may or may not be something you want or need.
if don't need pop access, yahoo or gmail are both good.

The way your email conversations "thread" (for want of a better term) is also really sweet. It makes old stuff really easy to find, and it's almost like using IM. There's a lot of memory, but it's all so organized and easy to use I'm burning it up. Still in no danger of running out though.

Thanks Core Shot.
I have no need for pop3/smtp, but I may try Gmail anyway if someone PMs an invite to me.Balls Deep in the 'Ho

Raise your hand if you have a gmail account that is your real name.
spoiler: I am the only person in the country with my name.

I have my name as my Gmail address.
There's a guy in St George that has almost the same name, I get his emails occasionally."fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ
"She was tossing her bean salad with the vigor of a Drunken Pop princess so I walked out of the corner and said.... "need a hand?"" - Odin
"everybody's got their hooks into you, fuck em....forge on motherfuckers, drag all those bitches across the goal line with you." - (not so) ill-advised strategy

Me: no. I wasted my invite on a word related to my job at the time.
One of my brothers got his real name later when you didn't even need an invite.

Close, last.first@gmail.com
I regularly get spam-ish emails (account confirmation emails for apps I never signed up for, emailed receipts purportedly from Home Depot locations in Texas, stuff like that) addressed to lastfirst@gmail.com. I don't know what the deal is there.
On topic, it's not like there was an abundance of great email clients available in 2005. There was what, Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL?
