Spring in the Rockies, Selkirks and Purcells: a TR/Photo Dump
I've got this pile of photos and trip reports laying around, so I figured I might as well share some stoke. This is basically a trip report of my spring since early April. I live in Golden BC, so my location gives me prime access to to Canadian Rockies, The Selkirks (Rogers Pass et al.) and the Purcells; a range which nobody pays enough attention to - including me. My work is seasonal and in the spring I basically just choose my own schedule. So I have a lot of free time.
Anyway, these are a few of the more interesting places that my friends and I have been skiing. I've tried to keep the words to a minimum. If you're especially bored at work or something and want to read some more in depth TRs, I've linked to a few blog posts that go into more detail.
April 3: Forever Young Couloir, Rogers Pass, Selkirks
One of the more popular couloirs around. Pretty cool to get freshies in it with some good friends.
I've more than lost count of the number of days I've skied in the pass, but it still blows me away every time.
April 4: Town Gully, Canmore, Rockies
"That would have been really shitty if it had been more than 5 feet."
"Yep."
April 10/11: Dogtooth Peak, Dogtooth Range, Purcells
Every year Ryan and I try to get out for some exploration in the vast amount of terrain west of Kicking Horse. This year we went for the highest peak in the range and it's sick east face, which is visible from the resort.
The objective, the centre of the three sunlit peaks way in the background.
Somehow we found this tiny sneak through the cornice despite the flat light and seeing it for 10 seconds 4 hours ago.
Whisky and smokies by the fire. Nothing better.

April 19: Grand Daddy Couloir Attempt #1, Icefields Parkway, Rockies
"Not today bitches" - The Sun
April 22: Grand Daddy Couloir Attempt #2, Icefields Parkway, Rockies
This is going better.

April 25: Pac-Man Couloir, Bow Summit, Rockies
The ladies are stoked on a late April pow day.
April 28: Mt. Dennis Couloir, Field, Rockies
If a line stares me in the face long enough, I'm bound to try to ski it.
Crux time.

May 2: Swiss Peak North Face, Rogers Pass, Selkirks
https://mattruta.wordpress.com/2017/...ak-north-face/
May 8: Mt Stanley N Face, Hwy 93 S, Rockies
Snow was actually pretty hilariously bad for this one thanks to a nasty crust, but it was nice to take the skis out for an alpine climb.
Amazing skiing right to the road...

Hope everyone's been enjoying the spring! It's been an incredible one around here. I've been lucky to get out as much as I have, and there should be lots more to come.

Looks like Canada has a few nice lines to ski. Got my first Canadian back country lines in April, and I am looking forward to more. This TR just makes me want it even more.
