Well then maybe you would know the temp outside then. And knowing is half the battle.

Good a place for this as any...

It was an option, but the M50 in the wagon runs strong and I have a line on a decent turbo setup for cheap. With four NA V8s at the moment, a turbo I6 sounds fun.

Post some pics... what other cars do you have? Where are you located?

Alas, no pics... yet, but, Started in on the timing belt on the e30 convertible. Lots of reciepts for related parts, but not the timing belt. So, gotta do it.

A new ground cable, engine to body. Should help all sensor signals make it back to the computer a little better.
On my 928 I used to have, cleaning the grounds and putting new main ground cables in helped everything work better. Some electrical stuff came back to life magically. Not expecting that to happen here, but man that old one was narsty lookin.Click image for larger version.

Turned out to be just a broken shift cable, in and out for $260. The tech on duty Saturday was the B team bench warmer.

Here's the whole shitbox fleet in a couple pictures. Silver 540i is my DD with an M5 diff, some Dinan stuff, H&R/Konis, and fresh timing chains/guides as of last summer. Paint isn't bad, interior is pretty decent. Grabbed it for about $800 last year with a ton of deferred maintenance I had to catch up on, but it's been pretty solid after that. Still needs a few things (namely a 6 speed) plus a set of tires for the style 42's I picked up for it a few weeks ago.

I've bounced around the valley for a few years, but I'm in Taylorsville now. You can find the G8 on KSL, I just don't drive it enough to justify keeping anymore. Between buying this house in April and funding my BMW junkyard, it'd be nice to see it go and have the money in my pocket.

Sweet! I work out that direction. Drive my 540i most days, sometimes the white very, and sometimes my 944 turbo. Wife drives a Land cruiser if similar vintage. If everyone was as s art about cars as us, they would all have old 540s and cruisers as well.

If your Tacoma A/C starts squealing like a banshee and stops and the A/C light flashes, it may well be the "clutch hub" at the front of the compressor.

The inner ring is connected to the outer ring by rubber, which should absorb some shock as the clutch engages so it's not yanking so hard on the belt in that brief moment. That rubber between the inner and outer parts degrades and eventually the inner and outer parts separate with the rubber squealing in between. The A/C compressor has a sensor so the truck brain can compare compressor speed with engine speed, so when the discs start to slip the brain shuts it down and flashes the A/C light.

Shops will quote you the entire compressor job for like $1000. Parts stores will sell you the entire compressor for a few hundred....etc.

You can get just the clutch hub for ~$40 on ebay, and it's a 20 minute deal.
Remove the flexy fan to make room. Grab the old clutch hub with vice grips and crack the one bolt. Slide that bitch off and put the new one on with all the shims it comes with, tighten everything back up and bingo.

I’ve done AC clutch replacement or repair on an 07 Outback and an 02 v6 Dakota. The Subaru was easy but the dodge was a whore. I’d advise anyone doing it to pay attention to the skinny ass shims that fit on the shaft and be careful not to lose them. In some cases the clutch may be ok but additional shimming may be necessary.

Yes, I lost a shim in the grass yesterday and 10 minutes of that 20 minute job was wanding around in the grass with a powerful magnet to recover that little fucker.

Finished up the platform with some outdoor carpet. Quick and dirty but it should get the job done.

Sweet. Looks good. I'm using the third row occasionally with kids. So no platform fun for me. I had a similar thing in my first 80 series years ago.

On the little e30 vert, I wrapped up the timing belt, and fixed a few suspect items while I was in there. Runs better. Feel comfortable revving into upper reaches of rpm wih a fresh timing belt. Beautiful evening for an extended test drive with the top down. Also confirmed that the ac system hold vacuum. So next step is find me some r12.

I use the third row once in a blue moon plus my girlfriend and I will take it with her dogs and a pair of pretty big crates on weekend trips, so I wanted something that wouldn't be a huge pain in the ass to put in and take out. It's anchored with four turnbuckles to the factory tiedowns and it's light enough I can handle it by myself. It'll probably stay in there more often than not, but it's probably only a 5 minute job.

Successfully swapped some new struts/coils into my pos 99 oOutback only to discover that in a fit of confusion I'd ordered the ones for a standard Legacy as opposed to the Outback trim package. God Damnit.

I guess it'll go quicker the second time.

Did they bolt up OK? If they did I’d make 100% sure they’re different before I bothered swapping them. (But then again I’m pretty fucking lazy) Anyway a shitload of legacy/outback parts are completely interchangeable. I could see legacy strut/springs being a little lower than an outback but on a 20 yr. old outback who cares?
