replaced all fuel lines with proper hose and clamps for fuel injection, actually ran after i finished. 81 vanagon air cooled. ordered up a bunch other parts to keep me busy at home for a while

My cousins (who has my exact name weird) dad is a ups diesel mechanic. Lives in MA. Big barn. Has a lift and all the goodies. My cousin is quite the wrencher, growing up with it obviously, and lover of euros. Specifically e35 bimmers, volvos, and vdubs.

It's one thing I wish I got into.

I've had to clean out kibble and mouse poop out of the cabin air filter on my car a couple times. Decided to do something about it - got some 1/4" opening hardware mesh from Home Depot and tore into the under hood area above the cabin air intake. Turns out that Toyota /Lexus didn't cover that opening at all - just a big hole.

Cut the mesh to fit, formed in place, stabbed my fingers a couple of times.... And done. Hopefully this works.

Good idea. It's not too hard to get the plastic cowl lifted up enough to stick a brush or vacuum in there to clean off the mesh I added.

I went through the same thing last year. 2006 Subaru Outback (front and rear), 2010 Subaru Outback (rear), 2018 Toyota Highlander (front), 2008 Jeep Commander (front and rear), 2008 Chevy 2500 (rear with ebrake) and 2011 VW GTI (front and rear).

Pretty sure there was some kind of hang up on every one (except the Highlander).

Not really much "wrenching" but got the ol gal fired up for first time in a while. Also confirmed I need a new starter(ah the hammer solution). Did manage to pull of rear suspension and bumper of the wife's 4th gen runner the other day. Think all i really need to pull of it still are gears/locker and spare parts. If I had I garage I think I could swap everything(minus gears) into the "new" 4th gen in a day. Unfortunately I dont think I'll be building the garage I had planned on this summer. Aesthetically dope as fuck.

Curious if the internals of the boxes run any paths. I’d have been tempted to alternate intake barriers to lengthen the path the air goes through from entrance to exit.

Any audiophiles care to elaborate? I’m considering recycling some car speakers for home use myself.

They are sealed boxes. .13ft³. So, little guys. No ports. The speaker itself runs about $9 from partsexpress. I was impressed with them in the car on the dash. Lots of people make lots of types of speakers with these, and the reviews are generally very positive. Go read the reviews here... People also post pictures of what they have built, line arrays, etc...

I’m considering recycling some car speakers for home use myself.

Many (most?) car speakers are 4 ohm, many home audio receivers / amplifiers are meant to run 8 or 6 ohm. Check specs on the receiver / amp.

Listening to galactic in the kitchen right now. It sounds good. I have other car speakers sitting in the garage, as well as some old crossovers. What I don't have are tweeters. But if I decide to build another set of speakers, larger, I'd like to build a nice 2 way bookshelf with a port. It is a significantly more complicated proposition to get it correct so that it sounds good. Proper box dimensions, port size and length, proper driver matching, proper crossover design. All that and you still need to make the box with square corners.

I need some mini-wrenching advice. My kid broke the drive shaft on his RC car and I need to replace it with the shaft from an old car. Each one is held in by two little 2 mm hex set screws that are locked in good. One came loose, stripped one, the other two feel like they will strip before they break loose. Already soaked them in penetrating oil to no avail. Any ideas?
