dicked around for a few days trying to be cheap by searching for just the hot side housing, finding only sketchy ebay garbage, then looked at a complete junkyard unit with the same goddamn crack and notchy/crunchy feel when turned... no fkn thanks

bought a new one from the source, switching from vf40 to vf46 in the quick-spoolin small torquey snail class

cracks emanating from the wastegate are common on these IHI units and not a big deal, but a crack through the central web of the turbine housing like this is a little more risky, IMO

hope to get this old girl back on the road in the next few days

Ugh the saga of restoring an old car. Getting closer. Vacuum lines aren't bad on this thing but it isn't sorted and the rpm and throttle response is not correct. Gotta figure out a line or two but JDM engine in USDM car isn't perfect match.

Worst issue right now is that I've been unable to get the clutch fluid to move from the master to the slave. Tore it all apart and the firewall hard line must be full of dried up fluid and clogged. This line is about impossible to replace without removing the engine. Wonderful. Just like the shifter lines I just replaced. I wish I knew this when the engine was out.

Going to try to flush the line with brake cleaner.

Lessons learned on a car that sat for 20 years. The fuel lines were fucked also but I got that sorted a while back. Makes me realize I need to flush the brake lines also.

Line is off. Fucking disgusting. I'm betting power steering lines are like the also. Why didn't I think of this when engine was out? FML

Can't you just install a flexible steel braided hose?

Yep now that it is off I could install a new line. Ordered the OEM Toyota part replacement which is still available in Japan. Amayama is a good resource

Daughter driving to school the other day (I drive with her every day with a couple other kids in the neighborhood- hopefully getting her license this week) she says she smells something. I am hoping it is the other cars' exhaust. One of the other kids smells it too. Then I get a whiff- electrical burning smell. We leave the stoplight and truck is shifting hard. My daughter notices the speedo is gone, and I know what happened. We get to school after some pretty rough shifting and I confirm the fuse blew. Pop a new one in and it blows immediately. This, of course, is the fuse that controls the transmission and PSOM.
I drive it home feathering the gas when I know a shift is coming. It isn't bad for the transmission, it is just shifting based off pressure, no electronic inputs. Do a quick research on what it could be and narrow it down to the remote door lock module. Sure enough, the module stinks.
I unplugged it, popped a new fuse in, and we were good all week. Ordered a Mustang module (supposedly built a lot better than the Bronco and F 150 ones).
It showed up today, so wish me luck. Next I get to try to trace it all out and make sure something wasn't causing it to fry, cause this one will be next.

Well my order from Japan didn't work out. Got this message

"Amayama Trading does not handle hard brake, coolant, clutch or fuel lines as they are oversize/fragile."

Going to have to keep my cleaned out lines and verify no leaks. Lovely

Try calling around a few local hydraulic shops. They make hoses/lines pretty cheap and often do custom work at an affordable price. Make aure to keep all/any fittings.

I forgot they sell cheap tube benders at Harbor freight that can make serious bends and flares.

Been feelin a little vagueness in the rear end. Looked at the control arms and the upper/inner bushings were completely shot.

This is on my list- Rear sway bar bushings. I am hearing squeaks and feel a slight shifting back there occasionally. Hoping it is that simple.

Picked up this thing for $500 today. Threw a battery in it, topped up the tires, and drove it home. Drives remarkably okay given the cheap lift. Not sure if I should flip it or just keep it around since having a truck on hand is pretty convenient. Vacuumed it out and already fighting the itch to throw a bunch of time and money at it.

    6-lug wheels, so it's a 1500, so no - 5.3 or 4.8.

    $500 for a running truck?!! That's amazing.

$500 for trucks, free Volvo wagons... Is it possible we're entering a new era of reasonable used car deals again?

    Nah...

Last week, an elderly couple with too many cars said "We need this one gone" and my grand daughter got her first car for free. One owner 1983 Bronco. In December she'll be old enough to drive it.
