    Forestdale Patches, July 9, 2017
When I did a recon mission on some of the Forestdale Patches on June 30th I noticed that there were many other patches available to ski. So I returned with my friend MJ to explore some more. We were able to park in the first little lot above Forestdale Creek and then we headed up between the Left Patch and the Left of the Left Patch. When we reached the top we saw that the backside of Forestdale Divide was still holding a lot of snow.

A fantastic day. Since there are many more patches to ski up at Forestdale Divide, future return trips are certain.

    The Nipple, July 11, 2017

Blue Lakes Road is open! (11 miles in instead of 7 miles in.) Time to enjoy the snow with Makisha and Penny on a recon dusk patrol skiing mission on The Nipple.

A successful recon mission. Since the snow was great and there were plenty of other lines to ski, I would return here the next two days making this Part I of the Three Consecutive Days at The Nipple Trilogy.

The Nipple, July 12, 2017 (Part II of the Three Consecutive Days at The Nipple Trilogy)

Yesterday, The Nipple, July 11, 2017 (Part I of the Three Consecutive Days at The Nipple Trilogy), the skiing was so good, and since more looked so good, I returned for more time on the snow with Makisha and Penny.

Here is a four minute long edit of our second run.

Since the snow was still great and there were plenty of other lines to ski, I would return here the next day.

Highland Lakes are open for business. After helping a 4x4 dig out of the only formidable snow drift on the road, everybody in a four wheel drive with some clearance made it to the lakes. Couple more warm days and traffic in and out and any car you don't care too much about should make it in just fine. Only had time to ski the northfacing snowfield on Hiram, which was nice and smooth as usual. Didn't have a chance to check out the other side of Hiram or Folger. Appears they're both holding plenty of snow; only question is whether it's smooth or runnelled or somewhere inbetween.

Lost Lakes and The Nipple, July 13, 2017 (Part III of the Three Consecutive Days at The Nipple Trilogy)

Completing the three consecutive days skiing trilogy involved adding another skier, Dookey67, as well as another relatively nearby location, Lost Lakes.

Relay Peak Road Patches, July 19, 2017

On July 19th Dookey67 and I found some relatively easy access snow patches above and below the Relay Peak Road. It only took 25 minutes to get to the snow from the Mt. Rose Highway Summit.

We skied two different lines. The first offered some separated patches above the road that nearly connected with a longer patch below the road. We were able to leave our skis on to sidestep down to the next patch.

On our way back the next line offered a longer continuous upper patch with more than the width of the road separating it from the lower patch. We did have to take our skis off between the upper and lower patches here.

Was just there on Sunday. My 14 yr old rode the Hiram/upper lake panel. We hiked up the use trail on the backside of folger and skied off the other side and then hiked back up and skied the ridgeline line u can see in pics 2 and 7 back down to upper lake. Only one small portage needed to ski it top to bottom

Due to real life obligations, I've just been hitting the quick 'n easy stuff off of Mt. Rose Hwy lately.

Sunday 7/23 I hit up the Relay Peak Service Road patches again (really just the closest patch). It's a 25-minute hike from the Mt. Rose Summit TH parking lot, then about a 5-minute boot to the top of the patch. It's a bonafide 11 turner (not forcing the turns). Banged out 3 dusk patrol laps and was in/out and back to Truckee in about 3 hours all told.

    7/25
Repeated the Sunday action on Tuesday, again, about 3 hours round-trip from Truckee to the patch. Snow was still decent, though the weather was wonky (there was a dark thunder cloud above Mt. Rose the whole time I was there, but nothing transpired).

    7/26
Did the Tahoe Meadows Interpretive Loop Trail today.
10-minute hike to the only skiable patches left.
There are 2 of them (you can see one from the hwy) and they had great snow, but are kinda small: 8 turns max, unless you want to hop-turn 'em or have a super short pair of slalom skis...
Somebody was kind enough to have left me 2 unopened PBRs, so I sunk one in the snow and enjoyed it apres ski with my lunch.
Had a hummingbird keep me company whilst I imbibed and lunched, which was cool (he actually stopped for about 10 seconds on a branch...never seen one do that before).
There was a crazy thunderstorm over the Washoe Valley that was headed into Reno while I was up there, too.
These patches are a bit lower and east facing, so they probably won't hold much longer.
If you're looking for a quick hit before or after work, this is a sweet, super accessible spot.
Don't let all the cars in the lot fool you, either, nobody came up to the snow while I was there (2 hours). All the tourists and other locals are just staying on the trail or walking dogs, so you should get the hill to youself (ditto for the Relay Peak Service Road patches, as the main one is above the trail, so most folks just walk right on by)

    The Nipple, July 26, 2017

Makisha and Penny really wanted to head back up to the snow, so we returned to The Nipple. However, on this day we would try a different approach that started from between Lower and Upper Blue Lakes and head up the backside.

    Folger Peak, July 28, 2017

When I skied Hiram Peak/Highland Lakes a week earlier I noticed that the backside of Folger Peak was holding a lot of snow. When I returned with Dookey67 and Penny we decided to explore these lines.

Did the Ski and A Movie thang today.
Went to Reno and caught an early showing of Spider-Man: Homecoming (giving it a 3.5 / 5 and saying that it's the best of the cinematic Spideys to date; Tom Holland OWNS the role).
Apres film I went over the Mt. Rose Hwy with the plan to gun for a swatch of snow I'd been eyeing for the past week. Alas, I got to the snow (off of the Relay Peak Service Road) and the patch was incredibly small. Since I was already up there I decided to hike beyond the patch and ended up cresting the the ridge above it where I ultimately banged out 5 runs on the lower bowl of Tamarack (I did eventually go back and ski the small patch since it was on the hike out).

    Roundtop, July 30, 2017

Having heard that Roundtop was still holding a lot of snow meant that I needed to ski it for myself along with my friend MJ.

We skied from the top of the snow at looker's right of Roundtop all the way down to the boulder giant slalom at the bottom of the "I Beam" with only one short portage to the top of the "I Beam."

A great day. The "I Beam" had some of the smoothest snow. It also looks like the area around Roundtop should continue to hold snow until it falls again at the beginning of next season.

    The Nipple, August 1, 2017

Makisha and Penny really wanted to head back up to the snow, so we returned to The Nipple for a dusk patrol ski mission.

You can see that Makisha and Penny want Vets to start his first run, self-timer photo.

This was another successful dusk patrol ski mission. We all had a great time. This also was a fun way to start my 166th consecutive month skiing.

    Sisters, August 6, 2017

After finding abundant snow a week earlier at Roundtop, we decided to explore the neighboring Sisters area.

Roundtop can be seen on the far left. You can also see that the snow below Sisters goes all the way down to Roundtop Lake.
