    Canadian Speeding Ticket - WWJD?

I got nabbed in Banff and got a speeding ticket with a rather hefty fine , around $200. Even accounting for the Canadian Peso, I would obviously rather not shell out this much money to the lovely Province of Alberta. Living in PA, we don't take out of state points , except for DWI or running people over, so that's a non issue. What ramifications would there be to , ahem, losing this ticket rather than paying it? Any border trouble returning to Canada in the future, or am I only rolling the dice if I'm driving in Alberta and get pulled over?

I dunno dude. I heard canukistani jail ain't as cush as our white collar country club prisons down here in the lower 48. More like pound-me-in-the-ass federal prison, ya know? Would hate to get to the border one day only to be locked up with (what's the Canadian equivalent of Bubba?) who has been looking for a new girlfriend ever since he wore out his last cell mate.
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
    Cletus: Duly noted.

$200 is a hefty fine? Good thing you weren't speeding in Kalifornia.

Some Dentist probably has researched this for a client and will offer up some legal advise. Why even think about risking it if you ever want to visit the Country and Providence again? Never know when you may want to move there due to an election outcome here.

If I only had problems that 200 bucks would solve, I wouldn't have any problems.

Fuck yeah you'll get worked next time if you don't pay it.

Either research Canadian law and rules of court, hire a Canadian lawyer, or pay them.

I advise paying them, and on time. Just pretend an elk took out a wing window if it makes you feel better. $200 is not worth expending a single fuck about.

HA! Luckily I had just gulped the coffee...

Yeah, just pay it. Maybe then they'll leave ME alone...
I've fought tickets in BC and AB but you need to show up in court. Chances are, the way everything is electronic and connected, that they'll get ya somehow. Someday.

Yeah, agree with all above, I had this all queued up to pay online, and for some reason was wondering if I was being a sucker for doing so. True statement that its not worth the hassle for a few bucks american.

On a funnier note, Constable John who yanked me over was literally out of the american stereotype of Canadians playbook , from the thick accent, to his profusely apologizing for giving me a ticket, followed by advice on how fast over the limit in the park I should go the rest of the trip to not get pulled over again.

That's $146 at the current exchange rate.

Unless you're quite sure you'll never go back to Canada, just pay it. $146 is not worth any future hassles IMO.

Just for future reference - what exactly is that speed over limit?

    ...just curious

    ... for a friend.

    Thanks

this ^^ you don't want to be dealing with this 10 years from now, in BC you gotta show up in front of a judge on the appointed time and plead your case and he will probably cut your fine in half

They book the officer to show up in court for all the tickets he wrote at the same time, booking and canceling court appearances multiple times in the hope the offcer won't make the court date sometimes works, I think my kid was sucessful with that tactic but then you still need to show

Speed limit in park is a silly 90km, which Constable Friendly admitted was low. He said keep it 110km or below and they won't bother you.

Bull shit. Not silly at all. With the amount of traffic, plus wildlife (no, the fences don't always work), 90 is a good speed for reducing vehicle-animal collisions and collisions between gaping tourons.

Drive faster than that and you are part of the problem, as your ticket demonstrates.

Foreigners must respect and follow the laws of my country. Don't like it? Then GTFO.

I expect exactly the same when I'm in your country.

Speed limits where I live are unabashedly silly too, don't take it personally. All Interstates in Philly are 55mph still, but with average travel speeds of either 10mph during rush hour or 80 mph other times.
