Meanwhile, Corralco got a break from the storms, and boasts 1.5m new snow in the past week, and 3.5m in August. The Cumbre t-bar is in mode "excavation".

People saw the slide go from the chair and it was unclear if someone was buried for about an hour. apparently the person who was thought to be missing/potentially buried then showed up and reported to the patrulla or something along those lines. I am also seeing quite some discussion about whether this was within the responsibility of the resort or not. It's a kind of large gully type terrain feature with a massive cornice on one side. Obviously very accessible from the chair and a popular run but not a groomer and not the designated "freeride zone" and there is some vague signage about resort boundaries somewhere roughly around there.

Apparently the base station of the Otto chair burned the night after that slide. Also saw some cool picture of Nevados erupting. Shit is going down in Chillan...

Good couple of days in Bariloche, now raining hard and high.

Thanks Kamtron, looks like everyone had a good time with that little 6 hour snowfall. Did you hook up with Cristian Wehrhahn?

In related news, a rockslide blocked the Embalse de Yeso road.

I am heading south for 10 days tomorrow, and hope to hit Chillan, Corralco, Sollipulli, and Villarrica. Any tips from recent visitors are welcome. Anybody want to hook up, PM me.

Met the polacos, they were nice and seemed very badass. They climbed an already established route another day called el Fondo Marino. The name comes from the fact that the wall is old seafloor and covered in fossils.

I may have met your friend Christian, there were a bunch of sledders there one day. I did some sled assisted skiing with the very nice Nico and Tutú who live up there. If you are in the zone, ask around and they will hook you up with some sled laps, approaches, etc. for a reasonable price.

kamtron, where were/are you staying while skiing cajon de maipo? will probably head over in a few days and looking for accommodation ideas.

we are now in los molles, drove up from bariloche via cavaiahue. had some great snow in bariloche, kind of sad to have left. plenty of snow also in caviahue. las lenas zone not looking great at all in comparison.

Stayed at Refugio Placaroja when I was traveling with my wife, otherwise camped. I recommend camping in Valle Arenas if hitting those lines, because otherwise the approach could be long if the Alto Maipo people don't let you down the road

Chillan certainly has loads of snow, about a meter at the base and several at the top. High winds and rain/wet snow late last week solidified the base, then some 20 cm fell and got mostly skied/blown off. So you can go just about anywhere, with nice windpack on the exposed upper off piste, and some softer stuff on protected un-skied south east exposures. Avalanche hazard would seem minimal, but I am no expert.

Now they are finishing up the digging out and grooming stage, with still no packed run down Don Otto, but the Canadian team is getting their private GS run groomed on the outer edge of the "cat skiing zone", which is now within the 3km restricted eruption zone, and thus "closed". The upper Mirador lift has a volcanic pulse bail out spot -

But the new Bosque Nevado chair at the bottom, which will give some lift access when the wind is blowing up high, still is not running -

    Chile!

    Hey all,
I am going to be flying down there sometime early this week and staying for a month. I was wondering if any of you all would be interested in meeting up/giving me advice on finding ski mountaineering partners down there.

I am a relatively experience splitboard mountaineer, and have an AIARE level 2, WFR, and have skied most of the major peaks of Colorado and the PNW-and have experience in Alaska and the Mont Blanc Massif.

I will be down 9/11-10/13. Lets get after it!

For what it's worth I skied on Cerro Arenas yesterday, and had no issue with access past the gate. We sent an email to the address mentioned in this thread (thanks!) And the guard was super friendly! Conditions in the couloirs were stellar settled boot top pow - no wind in the morning, but it was getting gusty and warm when we left around 3 pm.

Cerro Arenas looks awesome, hoping to check it out early next week. You have gps track, how much vert was it from the upper parking spot? Read that the chutes are much bigger than they look.

Corralco today was about as good, in spite of steady 40-60 km winds, and the lifts kept running!

So at the ripe age of however old I am I decided to use the FWQ events as an excuse to finally see what all this deep South pow is about. The back bowls of Chapelco made an awesome venue. It was blind from the top and my nervous excitement quickly turned my competition debut from this...Click image for larger version.

ID:	211763...it was an absolute blast chasing after my runaway ski and doubling down on the tumbles. The winner of the day was an amazing 19 year old from Bozeman who absolutely stomped the biggest cliff in sight as the focal point of his line. Bravo Argentina, bravo Sidney. I suck at skiing but at least I suck at a high level.

Oh yeah, and when the sun wasn't out, it was nuking. So many runs just had me grinning ear to ear I might have to visit more often.
