    Ski Chile 2017

First, the good news, snow is forecast:

Donīt go searching for flights just yet though, this may once again be a false alarm. I will say, however, that there has been quite a lot of precipitation, in relative terms, in the central Andes this year, most coming over from Argentina, which is unusual. Here are couple of March shots from the Volcan San Jose, which got hammered up high while Santiago was sweltering in the sun:

The bad news is that I will not be posting here again until around mid July, as I will be enjoying the northern hemisphere summer until then. So someone (or everyone) else will have to carry the torch in the meantime.

For general Chile planning data, please check out the http://bit.ly/Chileskiguide thread.

    Have a good season!

Wanted to go to Chile / Argentina for so long but it looks like it will have to wait again.

406, get hold of Reggie and Barney at Stellar, you will want to do a bit of heli
    out of the resort.

Thanks guys, will take lots of photos. I thought it was a scam when I got the first email saying I won and emailed tgr to double check.

Heli is about $1000 a day? Hadn't really looked into it much, but found this old tr: https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...alley-Heli-Ski Looks like some good stuff, but I'm always afraid of getting stuck in a group that can only ski low angle.

I would like to hire a backcountry guide for a day or two, if anyone knows of a good one? Buddy and I typically have no issue booting/skinning 4k ft days. Although going to need a few days at elevation prior, coming from near sea level.

Also extended the trip a few days and hoping to get up to Portillo for a day or two.

if you want to start with maggots you could try _Aaron_, elarpero, or alto (not listed in any particular order)

If you can bring some friends down to help split a day or two with Third Edge Heli you can ski what you want right from the VN pad.

La Parva opens friday, more snow is forecast tonight/tomorrow, and it is already looking epic. Remind me, what am I doing in northern Europe?

Check out FREERIDE MAP Chile if you need any information about the off-piste terrain and backcountry routes close to Valle Nevado, El Colorado and La Parva: http://freeridemapchile.strikingly.com/

Check the ski Chile guide thread for planning details. In general, going cheap in Farellones, Las Trancas, Pucon etc can mean US$50-100 a day plus lift tickets. Ski midweek until early July cheapo tickets, then after mid August. La Parva pricing below, USD is about 670 pesos.

Has anyone actually seen this map? It's only $15, but from the preview doesn't look much better than a ski area map. Also mike83 only has 4 posts, all spam.

The map has no real detail, but is better than nothing at all if you feel you need a map.
