Install backland ski/walk mech on freetours
I'm worried about the walk/ski switch on the Lange freetour boots and I would like to install an external one, like the backland has.
Any idea how tough this would be?

Tough to do it right. And not really worth your time.
If it really worries you, sell the Freetours and buy next year's Hawx Ultra XTD.

What is wrong with the XT system?
The Hawx XTD system is awesome, but will mess with the performance of the Lange XT.

Never mind, I looked closely at the backland mechanism and it would require too much work.
I don't have the freetours yet, but I heard that often the boot doesn't want to go into ski mode.

Often? No. If you posthole in deep snow with the XTs, then the mechanism can pack with snow. I've had to clear it with a knife twice in 70+ days.

If you haven't got the boots yet, it's not too late to give up the idea of ski touring - it's all adjustment, improvisation and compromise anyway.

2 seasons eastern sierra touring on my freetours, walk mode works as advertised.
"He thinks the carpet pissers did this?"
