My FIL was a huge aviator. 10K hour GA pilot, Quite Birdman and air strip owner.
He had a big Fly In at his strip and an 88 year old guy shows up in a Stearman.
They wanted an aerial view of all the planes. So the old timer takes me up and slow flys(40 kn) and I step out on the wing. He rolls it over 30 degrees and I Just about shit myself.
    Got the shot though.

It was built by a friends brother in about 7 years in his spare time. It's supposed to be the most authentic ever built, pedal wear and the dash is chipped in the exact location as the original, a repair to the fuel tank is replicated, and even the pillow for the seat is the correct fabric. I grew up few couple miles from Roosevelt Field and The Spirit of St. Louis was part of local history.
It has 40 hours on it now and Lindbergh wants to replicate his Grandfathers(?) tour around the country with it (not as the pilot), the original tour was 90 days, They're thinking 3 months for this one.

3 months cross country - purty ambitious... yeah, that would be a hard no. I'll be in the chase plane

They spent the day Tuesday driving up and down the runway in a car coasting to see how far it would roll after landing, surprisingly it wasn't very far. The one change he did make to the plane was adding a wheel to the tail for landing on asphalt runways.
You can see the ground crew slowing him down

When he was taking measurements from the original Spirit and poking around with a borescope he found a pair of pliers that were lost in the fuselage during Lindbergh's flight, He added the pliers since they were in the plane during the trip.

I don't really know, I'll have to ask him (I'll see him this weekend). I do know he is the guy for this type of Wright radial engine (he has nine more) and bought all the OEM parts from whoever had bought them originally. This plane has the carb from Lindbergh's previous plane on it now and his next project is also Lindbergh related.
As I'm typing this four Growlers are flying over in formation, It's usually one or two at a time.

Noice! Made it to central park south. Good time of year to visit - before the oppressive heat sets in.

If your taking in the Mets, the game might finish. If it's the Yankee's, well... bring rain gear to your seat.

The weekend is shaping up nicely.

Anyone know the story with that slender building monstrosity?

I was there last summer for my buddies bachelor party and was told either the Russian or Chinese oligarchs own those properties and by not completing certain floors it’s some tax loophole on their investment? And that building is mostly vacant.

    So it just sits there.

Similar to having a “unfinished” Tyvek house in AK maybe?

I was drunk so didn’t follow.

Happy Father's Day Mags! Life as it should be this morning before heading out to the local amusement park, then riding bikes, then sushi . Kids playing, bikes in the dining room, goldfish scattered across the floor, toys everywhere, and unfinished fireplace sacrificed to go play outside more.
Kids absconding down the driveway with strider instead of getting into car to go to the amusement park.
