6yo told me the Pokemon card his grandfather bought him was fake.

I was like "no way, your cards are great."

Googled ways to determine fake pokemon cards..

One of the big ones was fucked up fonts on the small print.

Sorry son. You're right. Your card is a fake.

Serious question: Why does it matter? Can't you play a game with fake cards? Serious.

[this is a multiple edit that the app apparently can't handle. I'm doing my best to restate my initial posts, as they seem to have been deleted. apparently they can be read through quote underneath]

Yes. you definitely can. But when we get into Charizard types this shit apparently gets serious.

For real. The card sold was a Charizard Shiny Rainbow Rare.

But even at this age my kids are aware of value. Last year 6 yo pulled a card from a pack that he sold on eBay for $120.

We play the game (a lot!) But my boys (7 and 9) are also into researching their cards and saving rare ones.

When asking grandparents for gifts of rare cards grandparents buy online and then apparently end up with fakes.

    Kids get bummed.

Again, My original post seems to have disappeared because

    THE APP SUCKS

    but that's the deal.

They, at 7 and 9 are already realizing the difference between the fun of the game (which we play.. ALL THE TIME) and the value of individual cards.
Your 6 year old is an ebay seller? WTF.

Nope. my 6yo has older siblings who know how to work the Googles. He shows them a card and they come back saying "that's worth $200!"

Wife researches and posts on ebay. (Definitely not a regular seller, just helping the kid)

    6yo nets "$120".

    I say good for him.

I bet pokemon bleeds against ETH. ;2)

Good for him. Solid education in practice.

I remember being in elementary school and picking penny stocks, learning about PE ratios, looking up the financials in the newspapers, and seeing it manifest with some skin in the game.

fwiw, fake card wasn't the one we sold.. and sorry for the thread drift. Probably should have gone under Shit That Annoys You, but the thought just came to me after looking at another fake.

At least now I know and can educate the grandparents who regularly spoil the kids with shit I didn't want them to buy in the first place

Ask any parent that has played Pokémon with their kid if they can even read the small print on a card. It’s laughably small. Only a child’s eyes could even see a misprint like that.
