I know a guy who collects classic cars (he and his brother owned Pacific Trail now Sun Sportswear) hoo boy did he have some amazing vehicles. I remember this one with its glass roof specifically (wasn't this color):

    1955 Ford Crown Victoria

There was one of those there. Nice old fella. Big smile . he was proud. Blue and white. Had the retractable roof and it was displayed at half retracted. Had a tag on his window "member of the retractable club"

It's been a while since I've been to ours too. Kinda wanted to check it out this year, but I'll be in Mammoth.

George Lucas is from my town. Some of you youngins may not know, but before he made Star Wars, he made a little movie called American Graffiti. Growing up, 'cruising' was a big deal. In about 1990, gangbangers starting showing up and the city finally banned it.

Now, the city has an organized Graffiti Weekend. Car shows galore. A cruise. Concerts (we got Frankie Valli this year!). We even got ol' George himself to come home a few years back and be grand marshall.

true that... the rag top was the most problematic. The coupe was flawless. The fastback was destroyed. About 6 weeks after the resto was complete I dropped the drive shaft on a highway that cuts through a dense suburb and pulled to the shoulder. A hopped up chick who was also drunk zoned in on my flashers and plowed into the back of my car as I lay asleep in the drivers seat waiting for a trooper to show up so I could get a tow. Car got tail spun up against a concrete retaining wall a bunch of times and ended a waded up pile of metal, glass and rubber. I walked away. 6k was the deemed value.

The car was unique in that it had the twin shock setup up front. Usually only found in Cobra GT builds. I could never track down the lineage of the car build other than a normal retail showroom floor unit. I found it melting in to the earth in some weeds along side a then rural state highway.

Shit! After all that work. I bet that was nice. Steve McQueen special. Sounds like a brutal crash. Do you still have classics?

College buddy in early 80s. had a '67 6 cylinder (mustang) convert. Candy apple red with a black top, the exact interior above, 3 speed. Sweet, sweet ride, many great memories. On toppa that, he introduced me to the dead.

Mark Beattie, whereever life has taken you sense, I hope it's been a good ride.

You won't like my complete flip on this. People attach to much ego to vehicular transport. Owning/leasing more than 5% of your 2 year net wages (gross wages if you need a fudge factor) should be the value of your conveyance. anything more considered an excess.

Sweet it it's your thing. Love the bling of DD's all the way to trailered gems.

Much better than the money hole of of a boat or plane.

The skills necessary to maintain a car 30 years from now will not be necessary at the personal level other than nostalgia and timed speed events. Pull the plug or drive off your wireless charging parking space and off you go. Something broke? life time warranty on everything including labor.
We'll swap it out at our regional service point.

The smaller your carbon footprint, the sooner we're going to get a handle on utopia.

eta; willing to throw 125k of aluminum and carbon fiber at a wall on the quick altered my prospect.

Ah yes. I'm more function than fashion. Cheap to be exact. Itd be nice to have a classic for the occasional put around town but I dont have the time or a shop to be pulling wrenches. Such great lines on those oldies though
