    Here is my shack
600 w of solar runs my fridge, and all the lights and night music I need.
Just finishing the outdoor kitchen this weekend.

I recently watched (most of) a video about a house with all-exterior insulation, which left interior sheathing, studs and rafters all exposed. It had some sort of metal siding. It looked super energy efficient and quite easy to build. I didn't have time to watch the whole thing and wanted to go back and watch the rest of it but now I can't find it. Was it on here? Or does it ring any bells to anyone?

Sweet. Around where I would want to build that, the porcupines, raccoons, and occasional black bears would make a mess of that. No critters where you are?

Since my wife started working from home last year I've been thinking about building myself an office/den/getaway out in the woods somewhere. It would need to be self-sufficient, but small would be fine, 200 sq. ft. would be more than adequate, 150 would probably be fine. So what I'm saying is, thanks for the thread, and carry on.

    Off Grid Cabin Resources/Ideas/Suggestions

Don’t underestimate the convenience of a 20 or 25ft travel trailer. Self contained with all the amenities already incorporated, mobile if you want to change the office view, and with a few considerations, can be quite comfortable even in winter. All for a lot less than building a proper cabin, if you find a decent one 2nd hand. We use ours 12mo of the year, not only for travel, but as a guest suite for visiting friends and relatives, and for my wife’s down time between 12hr shifts at the hospital.
Now we just have to get that cabin down in Pemberton sold!

Travel trailer saved my bus from the junkyard..... The chassis was in good shape but all of the parts where modifications were made to make it into a motorhome were pretty much fucking shot.

I sold it to a guy for $200 who I thought was going to cut it up for scrap. He did not cut it up for scrap. Instead, he just cut off the rotten back half of the bus and welded the fucking travel trailer on there instead. I wish I thought about that in the first place. So much easier than trying to turn a bus into a motorhome. Just put the fucking motorhome right on the goddamn bus. All the plumbing all the electricals everything was already to go so everything hooked up really fucking easy......

I'm embarking on this kind of project, but only a 10'x12' footprint, shed roof with a loft, not unlike bad dancers crib.

I'm overdoing the foundation with 4 4' sonotubes getting dug in.

Let's hear more about it. 10x12 could work. 12x12 or 12x15 seems more like it but I'm flexible.

Initially considered a complete footer until it became clear that it's overkill for the effort involved.

We have 4" of forest duff on top of fine sandy soil, so digging some sonotubes down 24" into the soil.

The 1x2 stakes mark the squared corners of a 10'x12' footprint.

That's the house and the channel, thanks. The one I was watching was newer, it was a visit back to the house after 3-4 years.

edit: here's the one I was talking about

    4" sontube will be perfect.
You have almost the same footprint as mine.
    I think mine is 11x13
