I've had a few shitsleds.
I helped paint David French's house in Portland, but the guy who was contracting gave me a 1963 Chevy Bel-Air with bad brakes and dubious suspension that required the most deft touch in the brakeless turn.
I technically bought it for 1$. It got rigged with a booze pump driven off the wiper wash.
Then I managed to snag a 58 VW bug with an egg read window, shredded interior and a crappy 6 volt system. I remember driving it at night with my current squeeze holding a flashlight in the front seat.
A couple blown bmw 2002s, a couple of Datsun 2000s, but the Alfas, which were generally demon ridden shitboxes, were by far the most fun to blast around in.Merde De Glace On the Freak When Ski

Pretty sure not knowing what live axle means man card revoked. But maybe just means you’re a millennial. Judges?

I gotta give points for putting a live axle from a bike in the mix. Seems just as live as any other, though I wouldn't have thought to count mine.
But millennial? What is this now, a capital offense? Maybe the loss of a man card involves castration, but let's not get carried away.

One of our friends dad was a porn entrepreneur. He had an awesome lake house, an M6 and a drinking problem. That meant outrageous parties that he threw with hot porn chicks and almost always us stealing his M6 and driving around the lake when he blacked out. We had great times. His daughter? Probably not so much over time.

The worst car
Ok I’m changing the subject back to the thread topic. My first car was an early 80s Datsun 510 hatchback stick in navy with rust holes on the doors that looked like rusted out bullet holes.
Was not the worst car ever made but certainly was far, far from a “good” car. Damn I loved that thing.
As far as shitty cars that I dream of owning, I really, really want a late 60s Saab Sonnett 2. They don’t even cost very much. They are fucking beautiful. God they suck to keep running.
Still want one.Last edited by EWG; 06-05-2021 at 04:07 PM.

When I moved back to Seattle in 81. my housemate, who was the Cobol programmer for Eddie Bauer, had a purple one.
It needed a lot of love but it was so awesome in snow; front engine/front wheel drive.
We'd go night skiing a lot and I remember blasting up I-90 in snowstorms, passing everyone and pulling into the Alpental parking lot with the snow literally up to the windows, people gawking at us as snow scooped up over the hood. I think my weekday pass those years was $60.

The worst car
I like the Yeti cooler hood latches
We used to be a somewhat crazy Saab family until GM bought them, and had one of those coffee table books about everything the company built from jets to trucks. I’m just waiting for a 1980s 900 turbo revival.

Years ago I saw a 2 at a car show that didn't have the hood bulge and scoop, and it had a two stroke engine. I actually laughed when the owner told me that. It also had three in the tree (or maybe four?)

This guy and his Sonnet roadster were fixtures on my then-local autocross circuit years ago. Looks like he's still getting after it.

The early 2's were 2 stroke and had the freewheeling feature, but later one's had the Ford V4. 2 stroke Saab's are a blast to drive, you either give them full throttle or no throttle and let them freewheel, they handle great on small backroads. I remember them (96's) being very popular in Maine as a kid.

I know I asked the guy, but I forgot the answer, did you have to put premix in or did it have an oil injection/mixer of some sort?

Putting aside your reading comprehension fail, your post got this Gen Xer thinking…any millennial I know who is at least vaguely interested in trucks or cars knows live axle vs independent suspension, turbo vs NA, etc, but this thread is doomed longterm as cars become boring appliances and ‘worst’ won’t mean much. Although maybe we’ll get some shitty Chinese BEVs to laugh at.

Three cylinders, three carbs. Just like a Kawasaki Triple.
I can see how that could be fun.

Looks like standard H 4 on the column.
Guessing the long throw is just wear based on the lever settling back after shifts. Ford three in the trees were terrible for that (and for the cup cracking).
