When I first saw this some years back, my mind was forever blown. When he started sprinting along the summit ridge around 3:22...

I remember watching this at the Banff Film festival when it came out, people were standing and cheering as he sprinted along that ridge.

That's the 1st thing I'd ever seen him do. It was absolutely astounding if you're familiar with the Nordwand history.

I read The White Spider (highly recommended) some years ago, which gave that video some astounding perspective, like you said.

Yup. That's the best piece, IMO.

It seems like every mountaineering book has at least a chapter or two on the Nordwand... such history on that face.

I have never heard of this guy. Never seen that video.

It's is truly astounding, and it sounds like there is a long history to it all, but after watching that I'm left on a knife ridge between sick-to-my-stomach and fatalistic realism.

    Ugh.

I was at that showing, or at least a showing. My mind was absolutely blown, as I think was everybody's.

Ueli's achievements and approach never failed to inspire me. I was lucky enough to run into him in Chamonix while he was preparing for this Everest trip. Very kind, very humble. Fuck.
