    Cheapest car rentals go to Costco members. Probably worth it to join just for the discount.

    Costco is definitely a go to source, and if you have to rent a lot of cars and can't be bothered to shop around, it's the best source for consistent good deals. If you can shop around, USAA (if you're a member) sometimes has good deals, and kayak is always a good comparison shop. And always book the free cancellation deals and keep shopping (and if you find a better deal, book and cancel the first one).
