    Immune system advice

Feels like my immune system is kinda fucked. I get sick a fair amount, even though I eat reasonably healthy, exercise a reasonable amount, take probiotics and vitamin D, neti pot, etc. Wondering if there is something I'm missing; should I go see a Dr? If so, a GP or a specialist? Allergist/Immunologist? Chinese medicine?

Any and all advice and jokes are welcome.

^^ I use to use the neti pot in the winter and was sick all the time. I stopped have felt a ton better, still use in warm months but not as often. emergenC also helps me along with the daily rails of coke, that keeps you going.

You're old. Don't drink, smoke, fly, and avoid crowds. Being fit will keep it from killing you.

Personally, I think globalization has made new virus more communicable. I don't have a problem with that but I think it's worth some thought.

I'd check with WebMd first to see what they say. That way you'll be able to bring a list of possible ailments to the doc when you do decide to go see one.

    Heal up quick man.

Posting in this thread should help! I haven't been sick in months with the wife and kids coming and going with virus after virus. Dumb luck? Probably.

One kid. And her first year in day care, HOLY FUCKING VIRUSES! But she's six now, so... Though now that you mention it, she did just start kindergarten, new school/new germs, so maybe that is it. Still, she and the wife haven't been sick near as often as me.

I think getting enough sleep is the number one reason why I do/don't get sick, and I'm not old. Also alcohol def doesn't help

too general with the info provided here to really say anything useful BUT.... how is your stress management? Stress and anxiety are have profound influences over immune function- if you are worried sick then it's entirely possible you could be sick from worry.

When my kids were about that age I skied once at Loveland with Berko and Rontele. I had a nasty cough and complained that I was always sick. Berko said "I used to think I had AIDS, but then figured out that I just had kids"

You just have a kid and they bring home everything going around at school.

Are you busting out some endorphins everyday? If not, start Nordic skiing at lunch for an hour. Endorphin release is way underrated

    Berko is a wise man.

And the sleep and stress points are well taken, I try to get decent sleep but sometimes fail, and I am definitely stressed some. But I am still getting sick way more than those around me. Wondering if there is a medical solution I should pursue, and if so, what that should be.

That's good advice, I do exercise some when I am not sick, but probably not hard enough. Mostly because I hate the fucking gym, and there isn't any good lunchtime nordic skiing in downtown Denver.

Find a good gym that you love. I go to a gym that is specifically tailored to mountain sports, and for people who don't like going to the gym. It costs way too much, but I love it and its working.

    Immune system advice

4yr old in the house, work/life stress, airborne crap during those winter inversion days along with Achilles heal sinuses made the period leading up to Xmas one cold bug after another.
More exercise, better air (which means more snow => more exercise, funny that) and a bit less stress post holidays has seen me dodge a couple of bugs the wife and daughter have brought home since the new year.
I almost always sleep well and eat better than I should so those probably aren't big factors. I avoided the flying coffin this winter again, and never go to public pools and such - those always fuck me up shortly after. YMMV

My 4yo is in new school this year and I've been on and off sick for what seems like months. Also the up and down weather around here can't help.

Endorphins are easily released. It just hurts making it happen. Do it everyday. It gets easier. That, and the weed are keeping me sane and healthy.

Immune system overactivity is a cause of many syndromes and diseases, and medicines frequently operate by suppressing your immune system. In general, activating your immune system is probably not something you want to be doing outside of the accepted targeted way of doing so, which is vaccination.

That said, in experimental animals, scientists use a substance derived from bacteria called lipopolysaccharide as a general immune system activator.

I'm cranking a Brent era TLEO right now. And I'm very much healthy at this moment. Lay off the alcohol for a couple of weeks and start both push-ups, pull-ups and some yoga. For real, losing flexibility is what ages us. Go to a yoga class. And get after it. It will change you!

The gym is as bad as two kids in daycare. Like clock work every yr I pick up whatever is going around.

I'm seriously in the mkt for some discreet gloves for the gym and while traveling.
