I can see it both ways but taking 2 weeks off in the middle of the playoff chase, risking injuries, for no money return? Not an awesome business proposition when you get right down to it.
I did see most of the 3rd period, and you're 100% right, it was great hockey.

I guess I can also see the business side of it, and obviously it doesnt make a lot of sense business wise. but as a hockey fan, its disappointing to not be able to see your country's best hockey players going up against other countries for the gold medal.

Cripes... When are they going to have those races, after the closing ceremonies?

Kudos to SK for well prepared venues. The ski snow was perfect on opening day for all the courses.

They had other stuff to do in Sochi. Like drilling holes in laboratory walls to exchange urine samples. Shit like that.

Almaty would be a pretty rad location for the Olympics. Big mountains, snow, at least some giving a shit about winter sports. The scumbags at the IOC demand lots, true, but the event venue standards have risen lots in the past decades too. No way would the crappy infrastructure of the '60s fly with competitors now.

This women's big air competition is unwatchable. And super-hyped color commentator dude is making it 10x worse.

^^^OK, I’m a skate-skiing homer, but I could watch that over and over and over again.

If you've never skate skied I can tell you that it is seriously one of the physically hardest damned things. Those girls are rock stars who know how to push themselves to very dark places.
