I'm not a fan of halpipe skiers not using poles. I'm not sure why.

I said the same thing to my wife watching Porteous - I think its because it reminds me of rollerblading.

Hopefully his score was deducted. Real skiers use poles.

On Wise vs Ferreira scores- I think Wise showed more comfort and stlyle, Ferreira just seemed to be spinning/torquing as hard as possible. But I’m a biased Tahoe/Wise fanboi

Does the fact that so many Americans are watching hockey and curling mean Canada has already won?

Not for nothing, but the men's 15k biathalon also ended in an awesome photo finish. and neither of those was the best moment of the olympics. that honor is reserved for this. "ooops I did it again"

Poulin's hit would be 5 minutes and game misconduct in NHL. Hope she's suspended from international play for a few games.
I'd like to see checking allowed in women's hockey. It just looks wrong to see someone skate around someone and all the defender can do is wave a stick at them--although the US did a impressive job of stealing pucks off Canada's sticks. . There's plenty of checking going on--get the judgement call of what is or is not a check out of the game. The US skating was great. After watching that game and the men's last game the question of whether skating or hitting wins hockey games the answer is neither--it's shootouts.

There must be some doping pros here. Why would a curler use meldonium?

amazing fake on that last shootout goal by the u.s.

so much pressure on the keeper it would be almost impossible not to fall for the first juke.

The poles aren’t functional in the half pipe. So it’s a style thing only. Long poles would just break or get in the way.

    2018 Winter Olympics Thread

Hey goat, I disagree. I like the difference, due to the better flow of the women’s game because of the no check policy. I’ll never get to see it, but it would be cool to see NHL caliber players using the same rules. Prolly see more incredible stick handling and the defensemen would have to up their game.

    Great hockey game.

Here is how you being checking into women’s hockey at college level and up now that the women’s game is developed. Do it by ranking differential and / or mutual agreement.

For example in college, pit in a “checking is allowed” if the ranking between the two teams is say 10 or less (exact number TBD). If #1 plays #4 and they agree, checking is on. Should be even teams with players of similar skill level. If #1 plays an unranked cream puff, no checking period. Same goes for the olympics. Canada and US could check as they are 1 vs 2 and if they both agree. No checking when US plays say Korea (a start up team).

This way checking evolves into the game against evenly matched teams and is out when there is that big skill differential.

    My two cents.

Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

Any international hockey game that is won or lost in a shootout is fucking stupid. Obviously I would have rather the Canucks won but they really didn't deserve to, they were out played. BUT, taking a team game and full team effort to get to the gold medal game and having it come down to 2 individuals in my opinion is ridiculous. Let them slug it out until there is a goal, just like the NHL playoffs. Even if the Canadians won it I'd say the same thing, shootouts are stupid.

Good for her. Opposite of the "Hungarian" half pipe skier who wants to "inspire" people.
