    Arai

Word around the onsen is that Arai (36.990680, 138.181261) will be reopening for the 2017/18 season.

Anybody have any beta to add to this: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/a...p/t-56929.html

    Or this: http://myokokogen.net/resorts/arai-ski-resort/

The terrain looks decent, by Japanese standards, mini-golf but with some slope angle here and there, maybe not as much north aspect as would be nice. Could be a step down from some of the better terrain options in Hakuba.

It has a rep for tons of snow, but it has a base elevation of 370m, mid-station at 540m, and summit at 1280. That makes me think rain. It's lower than some of the other resorts near Myoko, but higher than others.

    Hrm...

Good helmets, but I prefer Shoei as they fit my head better.....

Been there when it was open - went a few times. You hit it with the elevation, close to the coast, gets tons of snow, but often wet. Also they like to keep you on the piste there is what I remembered. They weren't the biggest fans of heading off the trails.

they (Shoei) weigh more and their sponsorship/racer net program always sucked.

Now realize how damp Arai was. /:~>
