Thoughts on this song? I listen and think I was born in the wrong era.
What was it like in 1972? Were all the songs this cool?

There was a lot of bad music in 1972 but a lot of good music for sure.

If you like Brandy, you gotta love this 1972 gem...
There's enough hair between those guys for 10 bands now.

Man, most music gets fucking stale or you realize only later that it was never good in the first place; most eras are populated mostly by crap; you look back and you can see how formulaic most of the shit on the radio was. Its rare that someone's that good, that you can just keep listening over and over. That said, I mean just looking at the charts, 72 has some survivors that might make the cut:
Arlo Guthrie: 'The City of New Orleans' ('cept he don know how to say New Orleans) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvMS_ykiLiQ
Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen: 'Hot Rod Lincoln' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R7l7nDuj1o
Mac Davis: 'Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me' (cheesy, I know) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UauHDIlhvTk
Neil Young: 'Heart of Gold' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO8kTRv4l3o
The Hollies: 'Long Cool Woman' - shit man, that song rocks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qKOv3VBJcc
Elton John: 'Rocket Man' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCf23ZTFaDM FUCKING ROCKET MAN (btw I saw Elton in Indianapolis in like 05 - absolutely killer show)
America: 'A Horse With No Name' (call em a Neil knock off if you want to, they never hid that they were inspired by him, nor offended by those taking those shots, and, a song that prolly stands up to time pretty well) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSAJ0l4OBHM
The Moody Blues: 'Knights in White Satin' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9muzyOd4Lh8
Jim Croce: 'You Don't mess around with Jim' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4qUXcXuMSE
And, yeah, I admit Brandy still gets airtime.
Neil Diamond: 'Song Sung Blue' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ighSddnnaPE (might have to be a fan, lol)Last edited by Jong Lafitte; 01-16-2017 at 04:12 PM.

white satin wouldn't make very good armor.

Hahahaha, yeah, woops! And, you're right Iceman, not very good armor; LOL. No use changing it now sigh. The worst part is, that's not a typo. I never thought too much about that song but despite hearing it my whole life, reading it on the youtubes right then as I posted it, I'm still pretty sure that this whole time I've been alive believing that it was "Knights" as in, yeah, I suppose like wearing white satin. I like all their pretty songs, and I like to sing along and I like to shoot my gun, but I don't know what it means, don't know what it means

Yeah man! Good stuff. I have always liked the Neil Young song. Never realized that was from '72.
I think my draw is the reliance on real instruments. Smoke weed. Play an instrument. That's what the '70's were about, no?

I was just a kid but that was as divided and crazy an era as this one, people forget. Nixon and Vietnam just for starters. And the 1op 100 is all over the map, but there's some great songs.
http://www.bobborst.com/popculture/t...ear/?year=1972
Hell, Elvis and Chuck Berry both charted that year. Neil Diamond! The Osmonds!
This thing is like 3 separate songs mashed together, but it's pretty classic:

XM Deep Tracks occasionally plays some other Looking Glass tunes. They were a decent band for a one hit wonder.

There will be no other era like the 70's.
I figure everyone says that, but look at the top 100 bands, and see how many came out of the 70's.
What a music scene it was, and I got to live in it, and enjoy. Still do. I can't listen to this stuff today. It does not have a soul for some reason.
They all had a story to tell. Now I can't follow the storyline. La La La

Bill Kirchen (guitar player with Commander Cody) is still doing a great extended version on tour.
There are two songs from that era that make me gag when I hear them--Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum, and American Pie by Don McClean. Sorry to all those I've offended. Back in the day I preferred my music to be loud, bombastic, and drug influenced--The Who, Stones, Hendrix, Cream--yadayadayada. Nowadays I prefer twang (especially Bill Kirchen).
