The Word of the Day
Someone signed me up for a word of the day email about a decade ago. I haven't brought myself to unsubscribe and usually just delete it as most of the words are so obtuse that they'd never be able to work their way into my normal conversation.
That changed today. This week's theme is 'words that appear rude but aren't'.
Cue Elmo: The word of the day is....
ulous
(KRAP-yuh-luhs)
MEANING:
adjective: Sick from excessive drinking or eating.
ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin crapula (drunkenness), from Greek kraipale (hangover, drunkenness). Earliest documented use: 1540. Also crapulent.
USAGE:
“He was feeling crapulous after drinking and wasn’t thinking of anything much when he went early to the beach.”
Jim Williams; The Argentinian Virgin; Quartet Books; 2009.
See more usage examples of crapulous in Vocabulary.com’s dictionary.
I have been feeling quite crapulous since I drank my body weight in Woodford over the holidays. And who knew crapula was a legit Latin word?
ETA: What's with the poop emoji? This is serious language learnin here.I still call it The Jake.

One of my friends signed me up for cheese of the month. For Jan it is Consider Bardwell Farm Barden Blue.
The newest cheese in Consider Bardwell's line-up, Barden Blue's buttery flavor and bright, golden hue can be traced to the best raw, local cow's milk delivered each morning straight to the cheesemaking room. The carefully controlled bluing, which lends the cheese its ever-so-slight peppery edge, comes about as a result of the cheesemaker's attention to quality and detail."timberridge is terminally vapid" -- a fortune cookie in Yueyang

I got signed up for Jelly of the Month by my employer rather than the usual Christmas bonus.
For a little heat during the coldest time of year, this month's jelly is http://www.blueridgejams.com/Jalapen...Preserves.htmlAim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

The word of the month is Ya'll.
In order to properly convert this thread to a polyasshat thread to more fully enrage the liberal left frequenting here...... (insert latest democratic blunder of your choice).

Clark, that's the gift that keeps on giving the whole year.
I wouldn't mind a cheese of the month club, though. The local Wegmans has an awesome cheese selection, and I've really started to focus on seasonal releases - there's something cool about seasonal stuff that feels somehow more connected to things. Part of the reason I think it's weird to have strawberries in the wintertime, etc.

That Barden Blue is great, had some on a cheese slate at Foam last month.
NEK, better the Jelly Club than a donation to the Human Fund.

Boucher Bleu from up in Highgate is the best.
Try the Danby aged goat cheese from Consider Bardwell with a glass of red wine in front of the wood stove on a winter evening. Mixed company suggested.

That's funny. There used to be a great bar in Boise called the Interlude. They had a dictionary in the middle of the bar, whenever I'd go in, I'd open a random page in the dictionary and use that as an icebreaker in a new conversation.

That's cool, I once stumbled across a site for a club or society of neologist. Too bad I can't remember it.
