My bad for not catching that, thought it was all over Bears Ears.

Yup, for the most part, selling Fed land is a really really bad idea. There's places I'd like to see them sell some small parcels and keep the mineral rights. For instance in Baca County and SWKS they own stray 1/4 sections of grassland that are surrounded by farmland. It's almost worthless for grazing and recreation, and the wind blows the herbicide resistant grass seed onto the farmland.

I would suggest getting there really early if you want to have a chance to speak or even get in the door. They moved it from town hall to the highschool due to the overwhelming interest.

In other Utah politics fuckery news. Mike Lee held a con call town hall the other day where all the questions were called in ahead of time and screened. It was the echo chamber you would expect.... oh and Orrin refuses to meet with us.
I'm in for beers. You're involved with the backcountry hunters and anglers, right? I signed up and gave 'em a small donation recently.

That seems like a reasonable approach. I'm all for sensible land swaps and consolidating. The bullshit that our current crop of politicians is into is entirely different, though.

I was hoping to make it but now it's looking doubtful. It sounds like it will be a substantial crowd regardless and I couldn't have stayed for beers anyway.

I was there with sir shreds and it was a shitshow. No mic for the audience to ask their questions, no system to pick who speaks, slimy weaselly bastard not answering any questions. When a women who had cancer pled for planned parenthood he told us how his parents had cancer, then he cryed, then he told the lady with cancer that a lot of people dont agree with her and to get fucked. The crowd was loud and emotional but everything was under control. The guy validated every negative I thought about him. The little girl that walked to the front at the end and asked him why he didnt believe in science was awesome!

Highlight of the evening? Garlic burgers at the cotton bottom!

This is how they'll roll since the "huge" respondents they've been getting to these events. The shitshow approach lets them control the environment, in more ways than one.

I managed to get there a little after 7:00 which was way too late to get inside, but the scene outside was great. Unfortunately had to bail at about 7:45 but was happy to be part of the angry-yet-pleasant mob for a while.

My interactions with the cops occurred while waiting in line. They were making an effort to be communicative and pleasant. I was impressed by the positive attitude and professionalism. Cottonwood Heights PD probably doesn't see angry crowds of a couple thousand too often.

Pretty great. Also good that it was on the record.

There was a similar town hall for my/my parents' old congressman, Tom McClintock. Used to be their district and then the borders moved a tiny bit in the last redistricting so now they're Lamalfa, but a lot of friends in McClintock's.

He had a town hall last Saturday and by all accounts of the people there, it was just like the one you guys had last night. Same types of folks: middle aged folks often with kids, retired people, not "professional protesters," etc. It was raucous, but totally peaceful. Roseville PD escorted him out when he left (early as well, I believe), but as a precaution. They were quoted as saying there was no violence. No arrests. Protesters were loud but well-behaved. Etc.

McClintock basically spun it as he barely made it out with his life. Here's what he's saying now...

And what he said the other day...
    http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/07/politi...ity-obamacare/

Chickenshit. And a lying one at that.

I saw a guy there who gets kicked checks from out of state radicals. It was the Jewish guy I saw shank kicks in the 1989 holiday bowl, but now he's lying and saying he's a Mormon!

So true...Hey Chaffetz, back up your claim, don't expect others to do it for you. You say it, you prove it.

Asked who would foot the bill to bring in people intent on disrupting the meeting, Chaffetz said, "do some reporting" and described how one participant made it a point to say he was not paid by a national Democratic organization.

Of course this is just a page from the Trump play book, so I don't expect much.

Let's just hope his 3rd District constituents show him their true feelings at the ballot box next time around.

3rd district is so gerrymandered across rural utah where they love that guy...

With 24 hours to reflect I am a bit chagrined by how raucous it was. It made it easy for those in power to downplay the message as the radical left who are pretty much demonized by every trumptard out there. Yep. We are pretty much fucked.

I hear that, to a degree. OTOH, sitting quietly while he lies or avoids answering legitimate and important questions certainly isn't a strategy that'll pay off. There might just not be a clear way to get some accountability. Anyhow, it was nice to shoot the shit and get a beer.

Arc'teryx has pulled out as well. Couple more biggies and this will have legs. Who's next TNF? Be great to see some of the locals like BD or Solly give them a big FU.

    Polartec pulled out today.

NPR did a story on Chaffetz today too, I dug the "do your job" chants especially.
