Op is right. Alpental sucks. Crystal, Baker, Stevens way better.

Other than BBI no reason for anyone to really go there ever with all the other better ski areas within similar driving distance.

Sounds like you are trolling but most of us PNWs in the Seattle metro area ski both from time to time. Crystal can rock ( I just had an awesome day there Monday ) but per square acre of steep skiing that is up there with anywhere combined with a cool ski culture, City League ski racing at night and easy access and you have an awesome mountain. I had the super pass for a few years with unlimited at both and found I went to Alpental 2 out of 3 times. The only caveat being warm years where the snow level stays high.

Walk on Tram laps >>> Hiking traverses to get to the goods. Yes, the 700ft vert off of Wild cat before the flats is some awesomeness.

Yes, and for pure PNW gnar, Alpental trumps all other PNW hills. Certainly Stevens, Dweebus and Baker have their pockets of gnar, but you have to actively seek it out. Alpental is the opposite.

Alpie has the highest percentage of gnar, but depending on definitions, I'd quibble about limiting Crustal gnar to pockets, especially if one hikes.

A bit is less than a nibble which is less than a byte, so despite that quibble rhymes with nibble and dribble, I'll eschew that drivel.

Of course it is, because it is like the only place in Alta where you don't really need to traverse a lot.

I was the best. I wasn't proud about it. I just was. I got instant respect, the liftline , the smokeshack, the apres bar of choice, no matter which one it might have been on any given afternoon. I owned. It became boring unless I was on the verge of injury or death. There was nowhere left to ascend to other than death, or waking up as a fifty year old alcoholic sharing a room with 20 year olds in the basement of the Peruvian Lodge. The animal instinct, the primal instinct, motivation without words told me "Get the fuck out! Don't become another victim." I lived it. I reached the pinnacle, and turned my back and raced away from that nightmarish dream.

The heralded realm of Jackson. That's where it died. I had been amongst Kings, Queens, and every body lesser in the land of Utah. All of a sudden in the height of my career I began witnessing my elders fall before me. McConkey, Pierre, Romeo. Some remain untouchable and may they forever remain so: Nobis, Cattabriga-Alosa, the fair and wonderful Kasha Rigby. It became known to me I was not of the magic some of these folk were. Strong in body yet weaker in spirit, strongest of spirit being a requisite for a life fulfilled in the highest of heights.
