It looks like a mutant electrical plug from the 30s and a broken piece from a transformer toy.

Nah, I think they're just not attached and fall off. My verticals have that feature.

No, they're removable. If using without the brakes there's a profiled base plate front piece that goes in their place.

It's nice to see them returning to removable/exchangeable brakes.

That thing is not sexy. I want a beast with a flat touring mode.

Looks like two springs on the back for forward pressure? And maybe it still pivots? Tech bindings always seem interesting to watch develop

I'm psyched. Vipec toe with the safer alpine like release (tib-fib mitigation) and alpine/kingpin heel. I asked for this. I'll probably buy it. Also probably just committed to mounting my quixotes with vipecs given the same mount pattern.

Going to get samples later in the month. Till then here are some pics

OK first the Vipec for 17-18 - you can color coordinate for blue!! Oooh. Stepin is better. Looks like spring for toe is higher so its easier to actuate

    Technical data

    DIN 5 - 12

Weight 580 g (+ brakes) so drops 38g from last years. Not sure how they did that. Brakes are 80g

Options standard ski brakes for ski widths
    80 / 90 / 100 / 110 mm

Or you could use the clips for even more grams saved . It made sense to have removable ones when it affected the forward release but now seems kinda pointless.

Front release via heel. According to the PK "As in alpine bindings, when the DIN value is set, the front release occurs via a heel jaw with a dy-namic way of 9 mm. The reset force of the spring prevents a pre-release and compensates the high tensile forces on the leg in a for-ward fall."

    Also DIN 5 -12

50g more than VIpec. 630g with brakes. Brakes go to 120mm

Yah. That Fritschi graphic is uhhhh headscratching. Going to try to bench test them on a DIN calibrator

Maybe the graphics guy doesn't know how the heel cup moves, but this illustration makes it look like the cup slides upward, vs pivoting at the silver rivet. And even if it does pivot at the rivet, why such a low pivot? All modern alpine heels pivot on the same plane as the top of the boot heel lug for maximum elasticity. Putting the pivot so low really cuts down the travel prior to release, see where the pivot is located on the Kingpin.

    Fritschi luv....

I'm in on this thread for the updates too. I've got a couple pairs of the Gen2 that have been flawless for the last few years, both inbounds and in the BC. I'd luv to put a set of the Tectrons on my dedicated Slackcountry set up and my wife's go to skis. Not yet had a chance to try out the Vipec Black or EVO toes yet, but they both easier to deal with than my Gen2s and that in and of its self is a huge improvement in useablity!

Thanks! Great write-up by Brittany. I love that they utilized an otherwise vestigial part (the heel plate) to engage those locating rails.

Are we certain that the Tecton mounting holes are identical (pattern and location) to this year's Vipec? I know it was mentioned several times in this thread, but has anyone actually had their hands on the bindings and verified it?

I'm getting ready to re-purpose some skis to Vipecs for this year, but only if I can put Tectons on them next year without re-drilling.

On behalf of Brittany, thanks. I shot our guy an email, and once again the answer is that Fritschi bindings have the same mounting pattern- vipecs, evos, and tectons. They're trying not to be stupid. Unlike Dynafit.
