Sedona Recommendations for next three days

Good Thanksgiving evening - hope you are all full and properly lubricated

my wife made some good thanksgiving plans and has us in Sedona for a few days and we have time to roam so -

Looking for recommendations on favorite all day rides & is riding up Schnebly and down munds a fun option? If the DH is fun and a good payoff we have the legs/lungs and some interweb searches turn it up as a decent ride. Rode mescal, deadmans and Airie today.

Ride Slim Shady, HiLine, Baldwin, Templeton, etc- that should be a solid 12-14 miles of fun tech.

If you're looking for a shorter ride, I really like the stuff in Soldier's Wash like Javelina, Grand Central, and Adobe Jack. Not as gnar as HiLine/Hangover, but still fun stuff. Plus it's right there in town.

Munds isn't worth riding, except as an exit from Hangover (and perhaps not then). Ride the Hiline loop as described above. Soldiers Pass is fun, but only a couple of hours of decent riding (include the anthill loop) unless you out and back on teacup and trails to the West, which aren't worth it. The loop around the hogs is fun, many ways to link it up clockwise loops depending on your level, hit high on the hog and hog heaven if you cleaned most of Hiline, otherwise give them a miss and descend on little horse. Hangover is an incredible trail, but you'll be walking lots unless you're a pro.

thanks all - had a blast on slimshady, to Hog Wash, Twin Buttes to Lamma and a brief out and back on hi-line today. thanks for the no-go on munds will stay away, may try something to link airport loop to templeton to hi line and back to town on Saturday.

Hangover is super fun. Difficult part is the climb. Only one person in our group greased the entire climb (all on Enduro bikes.) The decent is very technical and exposed. We rode everything on the descent except I walked one right hand turn that was wicked exposed at the bottom of a fairly fast loose decent. So it's all rideable even by non pros, but it's certainly challenging. Frankly, not one of my favorites. Fwiw

Anything else recommended or new since the OP? Headed down for a substantial amount of time to visit. Also looking for recommendations other than Moab or Phil's on the way back as we will be taking a few days to get back to CO.

West Sedona has some fun loops now. There is a good figure 8 loop including Chuckwagon, Mezcal, Aerie, etc. Its a bit faster/smoother than the riding in Oak Creek. The trails south of the high school and Western Civ/Ledge n Airy are fun too. Chuckwagon and some other trails are overrun with hikers so weekends and T-giving holiday days might get busy.

sedona blows, over rated, shit show like breckenridge, boring trails, tourons for hundreds of miles, vortexes (don't for get your edibles)
so you can get sucked into one
don't waist your time
on the way home Sante fe would be a nice stop with some riding options, as (I can't say the word) as sante fe is, I dig it my kind of people

I've got a trip coming up to Phoenix for a baseball tournament over spring break/late March and planning to get some riding in while there. The hope would be to get a ride in around Phoenix at some point over the first 3 days and then another 2 rides in on the last 2 days in Sedona. Since we're flying in I was planning on renting a bike but wondering how people transport bikes w a rental car. I looked into renting a van/truck but don't see any trucks for rent and vans a too much money so was hoping to just ride from whatever shop i rent from. Probably have a friend meeting me in Phoenix so hopefully that's a non issue.

In Sedona was thinking about renting a bike from either Absolute Bikes and riding Slim Shady, HiLine, Baldwin, Templeton, etc as recommended above or renting from Over the Edge and riding the stuff just north of that shop. I'd really like some tech but also have a 10 & 12 year old plus wife that I need to accommodate with appropriate trails as well so hoping for an area that would work for both. Family has ridden in Moab/Fruita annually so not new riders but the kids prefer more down than up (don't we all). Would the stuff across the street from Absolute like Big Park ect work for them while i rode Slim Shady ect or would the family be better suited with us all riding the stuff in town by Over the Edge?

Other factor is that Over the Edge rents bike by the day meaning i couldn't rent from noon to noon for a day rate, that would be a 2 day rental at @ $100/day to ride the same bike I own chafes me quite a bit (still trying to figure out Absolutes terms which may be the same making this a non-issue).

Any input would be greatly appreciated

And any info a decent/reasonable place to stay would be appreciated as well. Spending way too much money on lodging in Phoenix so would prefer cheaper lodging as I'm hoping to not be in the room much anyway.

Last two trips to phoenix we've gotten off-site cars. Ended up with an F150 and a minivan - had ordered a mid/full size sedan.
Both times worked out great as we bring bikes with us (minivan was the best!). Alaska air will take bikes as a normal bag - no extra fees.
Otherwise, pull peddles and front wheel and drop in the trunk - can fit two bikes fine for a "normal" sized car. I put a bike bag over the lower bike to protect it.

I've rented from Absolute Bikes before - rented in the afternoon, rode all day, woke up early biked for a few hours, dropped the bike off when they opened - paid for a single day. ymmv.

Big Park etc is fine. Slim Shady isn't that bad - my wife was nervous to ride a black trail but she enjoyed it and continued on to Templeton while I circled around via HiLine.
You can take SS over to Hit and meet up with the family on the Llama or Bell Rock trail.

Brown's Ranch, McDowells, Carefree area, and S. Mountain will cover you in Phoenix easily.

The La Quinta in Oak Creek is usually one of the cheaper places to stay for me. Close to Bell Rock.

When I go to AZ, I rent a compact SUV. Take the front wheel off, and they fit like a charm. In AZ, I like Browns Ranch for a chill 40-50 mile spin. On a nice day, you can accomplish this pretty quick. Or, if you want the little man and wife to go, this place fits the bill. Lot's a signs, families, etc. Very welcoming spot and they usually have a guide on site to suggest routes.

If you want something fun and a little more of a challenge, I recommend Hawes.

I rent from Sonoran in Happy Valley. Last time I rented, I negotiated a $100 price for 4 days (F/S carbon Scott Spark 910). After the 4 days, I bought the bike, but that's another story. lol They don't rent a ton of bikes, but they are good folks and you can negotiate a little with them.

Sedona is incredible, don't listen to anyone saying otherwise. Sure, there are other hikers and riders out there, but the sights are beautiful and the trails have a little bit of everything. I've only ridden Sedona 3 days (100 miles or so), so I am not the one to suggest trails/routes, but it is fantastic in March.

BTW- depending on airline you travel, you can always transport you're bike. It's free for me with me AA card

Sedona. It's a place where you take the lady. And spend money. Get a nice room. Book a couple of the jeep tour's. Shop buy some Indian jewelry. Eat some nice food. Have good sex on the balcony when she's feeling frisky after a great day and to much over priced wine. Anyway that's how I did it. That's what sedona is for. Wanna get away and Ride mtb in cool places? Go to the north rim.

A few miles out of town to the west and southeast there is BLM land that allows dispersed camping. An extra 5 min drive offers plenty of spots for self contained rigs to get away from the toy haulers.

I visited in 2014 with family and stayed at some nice resort, did the hot air balloon ride, shopping and only did one MTB ride. This trip is solo dirtbag style with riding being the main focus.
