FS: 2016 Tecnica Cochise Tech Soles, new, MODIFIED FOR CAST

Brand-new set of the 2016 Cochise Tech Soles with toes milled to match the DIN dimension from boot shell, ideal for pin-tech only, Marker Kingpin, or a CAST touring setup if you prefer to run the DIN heel sole instead of the taller, heavier tech heel. With these modified toes and your DIN heels, your boot angle in the binding will be the same as if you had DIN soles on both ends. Nice!

These toes are NOT milled to the full DIN spec. The WTR tech toe lug is thicker both upward and downward compared to a DIN sole, so these toes will still require a WTR binding with adjustable toe height and a sliding AFD.

Because of the rubber sole, you cannot safely use these toes in standard alpine bindings with fixed AFD's. When running the modified tech toe with your DIN heel, ideal binding choices would be: Salomon Warden with sliding AFD, Marker Lord, Look Pivot Dual WTR, Rossi FKS Dual WTR, and old Salomon 914 with sliding AFD. Marker Kingpin would also be fine, but have a reduced ramp angle compared to using the tech heel.

When running the tech heel and modified tech toe, ideal binding choices would be: Dynafit / G3 / Vipec / Kingpin / Plum / ATK, or Marker Duke / Baron / F12 / F10 / Griffon ID / Jester ID.

I left a few lugs at the rear of the toe for climbing traction, and to give the toe a rockered effect for walking. One of the toes has two small round voids where I was checking the rubber thickness, which are strategically placed to not affect anything.

SOLD $65 shipped to lower 48.

I don't need those, but that is a slick mod and I'm sure someone else will be psyched to use them.

Will these also work with a Fritschi Vipec?

^ Absolutely, they would work exactly the same as unmodified soles in Vipecs. They'd actually be a bit lighter than unmodified soles.

The situation where these would not be ideal is if you wanted to simultaneously use your boots in both tech bindings (which require using the tech heel) and WTR bindings with toe wings that adjust upward. You'd have to swap on the tech heel on Dynafit days, and swap on the DIN heel on non-Marker WTR days to keep the boot angle the same. The modified toe would work on both bindings, and could stay on the boot.

That's why it's a good setup for CAST, or for going back and forth between tech and Marker touring / Marker WTR bindings (because the Marker AFD adjusts upward and fills the milled area).
