It's about 2000 vert from the parking lot, probably a hippy skippy squat pack for you burly l'East sliders. It's over a 2 hour skin for this washed up old shit. There's no bootpack.

And often not a very pleasant climb (especially early a.m.) or ski down (especially late) when at the same time that there are great conditions in Cement or Lake basins.

Not familiar with Crystal. After looking at a map, isn't East Peak outside the SUP boundary? Looks like it from the map. Good luck with that.

My hazy memory was riding it in the 70's.

edit- that also agrees with the wiki:

In 1974, Crystal added its first triple chairlift, Bullion Basin. High Campbell, the highest lift at Crystal, was added in 1976. It was pre-owned, purchased from the defunct Yodelin Ski Area near Stevens Pass. High Campbell serves the summit of Silver Queen and provides access to The Throne, Silver King, Campbell Basin, Avalanche Basin, and Silver Basin. In 1984, Bullion Basin was moved to its current location as the Gold Hills lift.

The lift isn't going to the top of ridge.

Will make access to it easier.

Have had the conversation with JK about "how it will open up that terrain by easing access" while in current East Peak skin track.

I wish it would get as close to the top as possible. I hope they don't have avie control issues without it.

How far from the top of the ridge is the SUP boundary?

Put it right at the top as far as I'm concerned.

I don't think it's going very far up though less than a thousand feet if memory serves.

When I was participating in the Crustal MDP ( and blocked Uberagua from closing off MRNP access), a couple of the other participants filed some legal document that keeps the door open for the lift extension past the old one. JdB would know, I think it was Lance?

    Interesting.. I'll ask.

    Certainly hope so.

Being on top of east Peak at 9.10 a.m. without ~2000' of climbing under the skins would be awesome.

I wondered if that was the case. If they are going to put in a lift there I'd sure hope they'd make it considerably longer. Not sure what good a roughly 800 vertical foot lift would do, especially one that's not really connected to anything else on the mountain.

I was browsing around the NRCS Snotel map and saw that the snow depth at Lyman Lake is 179" and I was wondering if that was the deepest snow pack in the lower 48. I found that Leavitt Lake in the central Sierra has a snow depth of 265". That could be an anomaly because there are no other site within 100" of that in CA. There are a few in WA over 150".

Mammoth is reporting 330" at the top. Squaw 250". Baker ski area 192" at mid mountain.

I think I'd rely on the snotel site before a ski area marketing report. Squaw snotel at 8013' show 146". It's always easy to find a nice deep drift.

Agreed, but it's probably not off by THAT much. The Baker number is NWAC telemetry.

Lyman Lake Snotel telemetry is a great resource later season, although it's quite a bit E and in the shadow (i.e., NE) of Glacier Peak, thus not representative of snow levels at the crest of same elevation. It'd be nice if WA had a telemetry site at 6,000' on the crest. Good chance there's 350"+ high on Eldorado.

On other news, NF T-way road is driveable to the first rise after 29 Pines (<3,000'). Gonna be awhile.

Yesterday made for a fun last day of lift serve for me. The sun even came out for the last hour and I got a couple of good king laps in.
