Pow Mow adds two lifts, largest ski resort in NA

I just read this, like their limit on lift ticket sales.

Sounds like lifts to come, not this year.

A Loveland season pass gets you three days there.

"This season’s expansion adds two new lifts which the company quietly ordered this year and is about to install. "

    Reading comprehension is hard.

Also, see their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/powdermount...type=3&theater

As a Luv passholder, I think PowMo just got bumped from the "maybe" to the "must" column of the Jackson -> Bird -> T-ride loop this season.

Well, if you insist, that is a poorly written sentence. Are the chairs going in before winter, which is basically upon us? Besides, there is nothing about this on their web page.

Anyway, very cool news. Looks like those techie kids who bought the place are serious. Now, all they need, are customers. That is, if they want to make money, which maybe they don't. If that's the case, awesome.

Somehow the addition of 1000 acres of south facing, sub 25* terrain isn't getting me particularly excited.

I don't know. If Snowbasin couldn't leverage the Olympics to get at least a condo or two at the base, I really don't see how these guys think they can make a little village in the middle of nowhere at Powder. Face it, nobody goes to Eden, especially when you have all of that stuff down by SLC. But, that's cool, more Powder, less people.

Pow mow has some good terrain (1 lift IMO) but damn the rest of that place is FLAT. I still get up there once or twice a year to escape the rat race though. The cat skiing is pretty fun when the snow is good.

I kind of agree but they actually have a surprising amount of fun southish facing terrain, nor does it all look like sub 25 degrees to me

Well snowbasin largely sits on National Forest Service Land, whereas, powder mountain is on private land so there are way less roadblocks.....

If nothing else comes of it at least Vail can't claim the largest resort in North America.

    :
I'm talking about the market/demand. If what his name who built Snowbasin wanted a village, he'd have one by now. Look how hw swindled the taxpayers for his Olympic road.
Besides, aren't a lot of mega hills on forest land? Like Vail?

I was looking at the slope angle shading on caltopo and the whole area shows as sub 27*. Caltopo isn't 100% accurate but it's usually close.

From the perspective of someone that would need to travel to ski there - but has free lift tickets - this expansion does nothing to increase my interest in the place.

It's value is that it holds stashes three days after they're gone at Alta/Snowbird.

Powder skiing on an open 25 degree slope doesn't suck.

    But it's virtually avalanche free.

No doubt, although I can do that just about whenever I want in the local BC without driving to UT.

I didn't say anything about the rest of the mountain... just that the new addition doesn't make me any more likely to visit there than I would have anyway. I might try to do a day there in the next couple years, I've always wanted to explore more of the UT resorts, including Pow Mtn.

Anyway, I didn't realize there were so many meadowskipping telemarkers here

I actually prefer to make alpine turns in hippy pow, freeheel or fixed.

I wonder if they're going to add a road to the new village that doesn't blow ass?

I do like PowMow though. The ~$10 cat trips are totally a go-to for "treat your family on their birthday" or whatever sort of situations.

Excited to check out Pow Mow this winter... maybe plan a trip for one of the holiday weekends when LCC is extra special double mobbed. Sounds like a great place for slowboard soul carvin' with the wife. Psyched to do the same at Sundance, too.
