On the topic of electronic drivetrains sucking: got a fresh bike. It came with transmission. Took it out for the first ride today. Shifter died 2/3 of the way through the ride. Electronic drivetrains are fucking dumb.

Assumed the brand new shifter had a brand new battery?

This rant isn't really against something or someone. Just a general DAMMMMMMNIT.
Month or so ago, pulling the camper to Arkansas with my Ram 2500 Power Wagon (Hemi gas engine). I tell my wife, "I love this truck but I have to sell it and get a diesel. We're getting 6-7mpg. Damn, really wish I hadn't just spent $1800 on tires for it."
Two days later I get a check engine light; transmission code. Head to a transmission shop where they drop the pan and show me a whole lot of steel shavings.
I leave a week later and $7000 lighter. All for a vehicle I've already decided to sell.
Someone's gonna get a really nice Power Wagon.

It's funny, I've been thinking of selling my Ford diesel and getting a Ram 2500 gasser.

After measuring, it appears my frame puts me right in between dropper sizes for what I need. My stock 150mm post needs to stick up about 86mm out of the seat tube to achieve proper climb height. I want to slam that shit for bike park and steep descents. But... stepping up to a 180mm V3 I'd still have to run it proud by about 74mm. So essentially only dropping it a half inch. Doesn't seem worth it. Maybe my maths are fuct.
Should have 245mm insertion depth on this frame. If I stepped up to a 210mm V3 and shimmed it, best I could do is having the post about 60mm proud, a decrease of about an inch. Still doesn't seem worth it.
Guess sticking with manually raising/lowering the dropper via the tube clamp is the best bet. Annoying.

Unpopular take here in the rant thread: I like my XT 4 pot brakes better than my wife’s Code Silver 4 pot brakes.

That sounds like a sweet truck, but realistically I'm looking for something shittier (read: cheaper). But the price seems reasonable from what I've seen, so I'm sure you'll get it sold.

Roxtar I wonder if that transmission is one of the reasons your fuel economy is (was?) so bad.
Is that thing a 4.10 axle ratio?
Pulling a trailer or hauling a truck camper?
I get 6.7 mpg on my 2013 Ford 6.2 gasser 6 speed with 3.73 towing my 11 foot tall travel trailer … going up mountain passes with my 60 gallon freshwater tank filled and family in the truck. It’s closer to 8.5-9 mpg on flats on the interstate and above 9 on flats on country highways.
I’d love a diesel at some point, but water contamination and bad DEF horror stories have me quite scared and thinking the Ford 7.3 gasser with the current 10 speed is a more practical solution if I’m willing to give up on torque performance, which I am, since right now I’m only complaining uphill when it kicks down into 2nd gear and starts grrrrrrrrrrr-ing my ears loudly. All good in 3rd or higher. I think people towing with that 7.3 see like 10 mpg towing and 18+ unloaded._______________________________________________

Pulling a 23' Toy Hauler to places like this:
Not particularly heavy but, like yours, it's a pretty big wind screen. I try not to pull it filled (90 gal fresh tank) but sometimes you have to. Dodge actually puts a 3.08 with the 6.4 HEMI PW in an effort to help the numbers.
Another reason for the diesel is we're considering a new off-road style camper that's almost twice the weight.

Anedcotally: my 2022 F350 with the 7.3 gas motor, crew cab, long bed, 3.73 axle gears, 4WD, totally stock suspension and stock tires - - maybe 14 mpg empty, around 10 towing (18' travel trailer, under 4K pounds). IMHO no way you'd see 18 mpg in that truck unless you're driving 50 mph on straight flat roads.
I do not miss that truck at all. Ford build quality is dogshit.
Current tow vehicle is 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD, 6.0 gas, 4.10 axle gears, 4WD. Mileage is like 13 empty, 10 towing. The Ford towed effortlessly, the GMC not so much - - that 10-speed transmission in the Ford helped a lot, vs the 4-speed in the GMC.

Odd, I can get just up to 16 mpg with 89 octane gas with cruise control doing 62 mph on flat roads on my truck. Usually it’s more like 14.5 unloaded highway, mixing speeds and acceleration and doing faster than 60 when roads are opened up. Michelin LTX AT2 inflated to 64 psi.
I’m surprised you were only getting 14 empty._______________________________________________
