    In defense of *some* trail builders, a lot of times they're not the ones designing or setting the criteria for the trail. They're just building what they were contracted for.

    Way too many land managers just want to build basic, lowest common denominator dirt sidewalks. And way too much of the public is willing to give them a pass on that.

    Up here at least money is being given out left and right for mtn biking so if your association wants to get their share you may be asked to take things down that don't comply, so a few elevated structures localy were taken down and there was some complaining ( by a non-member ) but the association wants to be in good standing with a gov dept who is going to give them $$$$$$ so they work with the and follow this standard

    and besides building unauthorized shit on public lands up here be it structures / trails/ ski cabins is illegal and you can get in real shit, a guy who has posted here/ has been thru it told me " do not ever build anything on public land ! "

    Yeah our local org's favorite move is to tell anyone who complains "come to our meetings if you want to have input". Well, they don't even have fucking meetings anymore except for board meetings, which are about admin not trails.

    True. But a skilled trail builder who actually MTBs will advocate for making the project more fun for bikes or can incorporate things into construction to accomplish that which a land manager might not even notice. The guy we have does neither of these things because he has no clue what makes a trail fun, and he doesn't want to risk rocking the boat with land managers because he wants that next contract. We've had a couple interns who are great riders and more experienced builders, and the build quality goes up substantially when they are working.

    If you know the county parks director having a conversation with him might go a long way. Maybe try and get some other riders together who also dislike the work and have them write respectful emails complaining about the work, before you reach out. And explain that different groups of riders want different types of trails and why the work is making the trails less fun without actually benefiting sustainability. If the county is only getting positive feedback about this group's work, nothing will change.

    Because it's not public land, it's Crown land, which in practice is corporate reserved until a pipeline or major development occurs.

    First, my dropper post lever snapped. Fortunately, it’s a Revive. I was able to use an Allen key to drop it and keep it down.
    Then this happened.

    Ended up cutting the chain into 3 pieces to get the RD out of the wheel and the chain out from behind the cassette. Fortunately it was almost all DH from there.

    I drove an hour to a trailhead today and realized that the only footwear I had were the lightweight sandals I was wearing, and my steel toed work boots. Wound up doing 20 miles in the work boots, not a feat I’m eager to repeat any time soon.

    Anyone have anything they'd like to rant about?

    I finally coughed up the dough and ordered the HC3 levers for my MT7s. Put them on last night.

    Perfection. Huge improvement. Ability to dial in the lever position and bite point perfectly.

    Here’s the rant. Why aren’t these levers standard on the MT7s? Why are they sold as a single, not a pair? Why are they $110 a lever?!?!. The difference between the MT5 and MT7s is just a bullshit bite point knob that does basically nothing. Why doesn’t Magura include them with the MT7s, just bump the price $50… then there’s a discernible difference between the MT5s and 7s. MT5s would be the basic dual piston assembly, MT7s would be the model with all the features and adjustments…

    Lucky it's just 2 weeks! I had about 30 some stitches right below the knee cap one year. Had to be in an immobilizer for two weeks, stitches were in for 5 weeks and no riding for 3-4 weeks after that. It was right on the spot where bending the knee put the most pressure on the skin. This was the longest any injury kept me off the bike including 2 ACLs and a shattered wrist.

    I got a big hole in a knee pad right where those stitches are which i fixed with AQS, every time I put them on I think ... that would have hurt

    The middle section when you are on the south side of Little Cloud lift line. There's some berm turns, then 2 short steep dirt drops/rolls in the trees. A baby head rolled on him going into a berm turn and he went kattywhampus.
    We rode it Thursday night and I had a baby head roll out on me in the same area and nearly went down too, so watch out!

    Speaking of which...

    I went for a quick ride on my friend's dual sport moto the other day, and I wore my D3 because it's what was at hand. But apparently that helmet doesn't like speeds over 35 mph, because now it's developed an annoying creak.

    I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing when you stop on the trail to diagnose the horrible sound coming from your bike only to find out that it's actually your helmet.

    Is massive bushing play on a Fox 36 after 1 season a feature built into these forks? WTF?! I’ve swapped bushings once and it was a pita.

    I put a Specialized Eliminator on the rear of my Ripmo last night (Ibis S35 aluminum rims). I've never in my life had anywhere close to as much difficulty getting a tire on. I struggled even getting the first bead over the rim. For the second, I had about 15 zip ties on it and had to improvise longer, stronger tire levers. I was at the point of giving up and taking it to a shop or buying a new tire.

    The only thing I could think happened was that having stored it for a while in my shed in the desert heat, the bead had shrunk slightly. The rubber of the tire/tread seemed nice and supple, so I didn't expect any issues, but then had a bear of a time.

    On the bright side, once I finally got the tire on, it seated easier than any tire I've ever done. I'm pretty sure I could have set the bead with my mini-pump.
