Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

Northern lights may reach northern New England

    Posted: Jul 16, 2017 4:53 PM EDT

    PORTLAND, Maine -
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Space weather forecasters say that a recent explosion on the sun could lead to a rare display of the bright dancing lights known as the aurora borealis.

But whether they'll be visible across northern New England depends on cloud cover, light pollution and luck.

The National Weather Service's Twitter account on Sunday said the best viewing of the lights could be after sunset Sunday to 2 a.m. Monday.

A Thursday explosion on the sun hurled streams of charged particles into space. The weather service predicts a geomagnetic storm when the solar flare reaches Earth's atmosphere Sunday after a nearly 93 million mile journey.

Space weather forecasters say the northern lights may be visible as low as southern Vermont and New Hampshire.

Experts advise looking north in dark, clear skies.

Most excellent. I convinced my wife to go for an excursion with me at a spot pretty close to our new apartment on Sunday. We headed out and some trails that aren't really trails and found some definite potential. It was my first time to the spot but I will definitely be returning, with the right attitude you could probably make it up to the ridge line.
    Edited to include pic:

That's a fine looking glassy loch you have over there. Very rare we get that on the big lake here but this weekend was an exception.

Regen zones on Stark Mountain, Cat Bowl and The Creamery. Three new, rather short, lines mid-mountain skiers right of the Double.

Put up a separate thread, but thought I would post in here.

I have an open letter to the board of directors on a FB page as a way to pressure the board to re-consider not holding the a UTV race that will ruin the ski hill. Problem is the board does not meet until September so the pressure is going to need to be strong to push them into going against the mountain manager https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMOMbeavers/
Please like it. Comment. Ask friends to like it.

Black Mountain is run as a 501(c)(3), non-profit, charitable and benevolent company. It belongs to the board of directors and to the skiing community
