Much colder temps much further south in the CT river valley than forecast -- my daughter and I skied out to our sukkah (ceremonial harvest shack of sorts) this evening!
Starting to change over very quickly though -- pick a color, any color:

I was thinking that the rain is going to turn the fresh snow everywhere to some combination of mank and crust?
Tomorrow (Friday) morning though should be spectacular.
For anyone near Pico, Upper K/A & 49er will be perfect!
Here's CTSmith getting in his first turns of the season (after such a long delay from Adams & Hood in late Jul & early Aug):

East Coast Roll Call 10 [ten] SKI or SKI NOT, There Is No Try
Still snowing hard at my place, one and a half miles from the river at 750 feet. Glad that most of the leaves are down.
Pure mankfest, but it's good to see.
We are due for moisture, pray for cold air

Very inclined to take JS rec at Pico. Looking like Kmart Ramshead lift cam is already switched over to the R word though.
What to do, what to do.

Plattekill trimming is happening on Saturday. Good looking weather with sun and 50's and the usual deal. Hope some people can make it so I can ski cleared out lines sometime in the future. After five years I hate to miss it but it's not going to happen for me.

After reviewing the October snow pics in this thread I can't help but begin to question the lyrics to the song below.
For some reason my ears keep hearing it as
"Muh-muh-muh-muh-muh Mai BIG BO-NAH"

East Coast Roll Call 10 [ten] SKI or SKI NOT, There Is No Try
As much as the snow rules, it looks like we will still need water in any form, period. Are the resorts not named K really going to be able to blow without it?

Huge net gain for sure at Pico given the webcam view.
Maybe any rain mixing in for now (although perhaps the upper elevations escaped it?) will make the snowpack gloppy yet still fun skiing with relatively wide rockered skis.
(Hey, even I don't *always* tour on my "ballet" sticks!)
I fear though that after a nighttime refreeze we'll be looking at a nasty crust.
(Hoping though that by Tuesday the snowpack will have gone isothermal then softening up nicely again for some "spring" touring.)Mo' skimo here: NE Rando Race Series

My wife buys these weekly after our garden is done, they really are quality tomatoes. I just pulled the last of our semi-ripe tomatoes the other day but still have some peppers on the plants, they are really hearty.
Where are the pics of those who got some this morning? Saw one from Josh Wirth earlier at Jay, 12" of new reported at 3,000ft.

Gotta be flexible and take what Winter gives you. Lift served is much smaller than out West. We do get powder days and some areas can be real fun. More snow and in Northern Vt. less in Southern Vt., NH and Maine. Get after it when it falls if you want powder because it often does not preserve well. Back country is a bit more hit or miss and there are only a few regions as opposed to the ranges of the west.
Finding other interests if you are a drive from the mountains is good. Depending on your funds and what you like to do: ice skating; mountain biking; hiking on public reserve land-good number of trails popping up nearby to most everyone google your location; cross country skiing; snow mobile touring; ice shack fishing-you can rent the shack with friends and do what you do

It was super fun Jonathan, super fun. Thanks for the beta.
Killington is reporting 12", I'd say I saw similar amounts. Just imagine if it were drier. I had the Fischer Ranger 108 today, plenty of rocker and float.
Periods of heavy, heavy snow throughout the morning, a few tiny creek crossings but everything on the main trails seems covered up for the most part. Praying it survives these two warm-ups I see on the forecast.
