A number of pages, various Provinces. Mostly mainland ice. Great Sail got some rock love, several new.
All way beyond my highest standard....I am content to limit myself to oddities....Glassing and 'shwacking in to try routes on Larry, Moe and Curly, the bigest three Boott Spur crags. Nice find on Lion's Head too. All rope solo with 4th classing here and there. The sad truth is that whine does not age well

Leaves are a-changin
Spent last weekend camping at Lake Groton. Saturday was a complete washout. However, the next morning was beautiful. I went down to the water with my daughter and FIL to take photos of them fishing when two loons started racing back and forth across the water in a zig-zag pattern. They covered about a 1/2 mile of lake during the entire race. It looked exhausting as they did dive turn after dive turn. Probably 25-30 turns in all. I've never seen anything like it. I'm guessing it was a territorial dispute. I quickly ran to get my 200mm lens and got this shot video of a portion of the race. They were about 100 yards off shore and into the rising sun, so the video quality isn't the best.

Solar Storms have been firing the last few days. Last night, it cleared out here just enough to catch a bit of the show. However, the sky clearing came after the moon had already risen, washing out a lot of the aurora.

Free bikes all over town. There is bus service to the mountain (from Gunnison too) Should be fine without a rental. Just like the town of CB a lot more and the distance is not insignificant.

But how would you get to CB (or Gunni for that matter) without spending waaaay more (on air or bus or shuttle from DEN) than most rentals?
I agree on the stay in CB, but it's a destination location...there really is no easy way to actually get there.Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge...

The last few days have had some solar storms. The first/best occurred while it was cloudy here in the NEK. I got some shots but only after the clouds had cleared out some and the moon had come up. This storm had a blue/green color light.
Last night there was another storm but is was just a glancing blow and fainter with different colors. I'm still waiting to get some shots from Lake Willoughby during a strong event.

+1 NEK. I tried going out a few nights/early mornings lately to catch a glimpse but the big city lights of the Champlain Valley or clouds had other ideas. Looking forward to a few planned hikes this weekend to check out the first colors of the season and do a little scouting.

Please help and donate!
For those of you know me, you know my story. I've had two bouts with cancer in my 33 years on this earth, and hope to never have to deal with that god-forsaken disease ever again. I'm healthy now, and in the best shape of my life. It's been a childhood dream of mine to run the New York City Marathon, and decided to do it through Fred's Team to help raise money for cancer research. I've been training for the past 5 months and at the moment am in the high teens mile-wise, averaging an 8:17 mile over that distance.
If you can, please help out and donate in any way. Every gift helps, no matter how big or small. Thank you!

^Hey Matt... glad to hear you're well and will definitely donate something. Awesome goal and hope you succeed.
NEK, I'm sharing your shots with several Willoughby "locals" and they are loving them. Good stuff!
Yes... love the CB. Thinking about this.
Done both and whole heartedly agree. CB is a great town... Gunnison, not so much. Good free bus service to the mountain and classic western main street. One of my favorite places to ski and hang.Screw the net, Surf the backcountry!

Any old school types know about Bolton Dome? I think I can picture it off route 2 but I'm not sure.

You can't miss the dome, it's about 2 miles before the Bolton access road. It's also the cliff that you look over when spying 82 Crag from the highway. The Dome isn't the largest VT cliff but is certainly the most visible. Its been closed for 30+ years, never met anyone that legally climbed there but hear there are some pretty nice routes. It's going to take some work and money to create parking and fix whatever mank still remains.
