Im headed to the Catskills this weekend for a wedding. Never been to the area, and not sure of the weather / conditions / recreational activities.

We are going to be staying in Oliviera near the Big Indian wilderness.

Is belleayre still holding snow thats worth turning on?

    Should we bring the bikes?

Is it solidly Mud Season and we're shit out of luck for fun in the woods?

Any other recommendations for good times in the area?

East Coast Roll Call 10 [ten] SKI or SKI NOT, There Is No Try

Haven't been to the cats this season.

My expert guess is that you could find turns at belleayre, hunter or Plattekill. Belleayre will be closest to you, and all of the headwall steeps should be good. It's fun but short laps. Hunter will have more interesting pitches but be a farther walk up. Plattekill if still connected could offer top to bottom block laps which is 1k of goodness.

For eating: you could try Phoenicia diner, peekamoose restaurant, and the spruceton inn for drinks and local brews. That place is in an awesome location and worth seeing.

Hiking if not too muddy is awesome in the cats. Happy to pm.

Ice season is sadly done but you can get on trad paradise in the gunks 50 mins away.

Fly fishing is probably going off now in the schoharie and esopus.

Don't really know anything about mountain biking but it exists, I guess strava that shit.

Or maybe just bring loppers and I'll tell you where to go prune for next time

Shit I looked at the weather, hope it changes for you.

Awesome pics From the NEK. WoW!!!

    Fun times to be had.

Not much time to write, too much skiing to be had. The last few days have been closer to Spring skiing with Summer temps at many Eastern ski areas. The heat made way today for a cooling of temperatures and rain. Despite the heat and rain, many ski areas have enough coverage to probably make to their Easter weekend goal. Skiing options will greatly diminish after Easter with less than half of them keeping the option open for spinning the lifts again once all the chocolate eggs are eaten.

53 Eastern ski areas tentatively open on Easter weekend.

    QC: 28
    VT: 8
    NH: 6
    NY: 3
ME, NB & NL: 2 each
    ON & NS: 1 each

    The list...

This is the kind of info that the lame-o's on AZ would eat up.
It has no relevance here, canadian.

Okay, I guess the annual tradition of posting this in the Eastern Thread should stop? It might not be relevant with you (don't click the link or block me), but some maggots appreciate it. If it wasn't, I wouldn't post it.

Meh.. I'm not going out doing the research and finding out which areas are still open. If I wanted that information, this is a convenient easy way to find it.

Not a constant link to blogs..

I say you're good. Thanks for the info sir

    Thanks JayPowHound.

Also agree on your first point, I also wouldn't add the whole list here as some don't give a flying f if there is still a ski area open in Newfoundland or any other places further from home. If they do want to see who's open, they just need to look at the list.

Now, go skiing. Earned turns or lift served, it's all good.

Who's gonna buy Jay/Burke? For serial- is it a potential steal for one of these big conglomerates? Are there anymore big conglomerates who need a piece of VT/east coast?

No doubt a steal but I was told by a long time industry local that no sale can be completed, or even agreed to, until all the legal proceedings are finished, which will likely be years. If some biblical type miracle were to occur and scumboy Q is cleared he could actually regain control...as f'd a thought as that is.

Until yesterday, that was a worry for me too. Now, it looks unlikely the Kingdom will take a huge hit. Naturally there have been ripple effects from contractors being stiffed and their payrolls getting held up for so long.

Mortgages probably went unpaid, medical consults/Tx probably got put off and I'm sure that new clothes and food supplies had to be juggled in some of the affected families. That kind of damage is likely to ripple forward for a long time.

Not currently, it's Farmers Daughter (saison) and Beezelbub (imperial stout).

Maybe I just don't have the palette for it but I had a Beezelbub in December and I thought it tasted like motor oil. Glad I didn't spring for a 4-pack.
