I've some info, but it's not complete -- table copied below.
For this year, given the upcoming warm weather, I think definitely opening by Memorial Day weekend.
Year; Opening Date and Skiable Extent of NE Snowfield & Airplane Gully (excellent if not otherwise specified)
2001 May 12, or maybe a bit earlier?
2002 Might have been a late opening, since NE Snowfield was still nearly full length on June 9
2003 [no personal info]
2004 May 15, or maybe earlier?; very little skiing left
2005 May 30 (Monday, Memorial Day), and open only to vans, but one-way up rides allowed for skiers
2006 May 27
2007 May 25, and only short lines left, although unusual distribution: NE Snowfield gone, but Mother-in-Law, West Snowfields, etc. had short lines left
2008 May 24
2009 May 16
2010 May 17
2011 May 14
2012 May 19, or maybe earlier?; already NE Snowfield only around half length, and Airplane choked off for two weeks already
2013 May 10
2014 May 18
2015 May 14 (but not until late in the afternoon)
2016 May 24Mo' skimo here: NE Rando Race Series

Meh. Total generalization, and incorrect as well. Douchy kids in every town, at every income level. Lot's of rich stupid ass holes, as well as poor ones.
Vermonters may not pretend to be your bro on the first Gondi ride, but if you're around long enough for them to get to know you, they'll be right beside you stacking your wood when the delivery comes. Their politics are localism. They may vote conservative in national elections, but Vermont has a proud history of bi-partisan governance, and functional governance as well. Vermont republicanism is not the Neo-Con wet dream we are living today....it is a throw back to before the GOP was corrupted by big energy and war profiteering. The state has been the most progressive since slavery and women's rights despite it's bi-partisan nature. Folks in rural, or "Take Back Vermont" towns care about Vermont and their towns. My experience is that if you are on board with that, and they see you getting involved locally, they don't give a shit how you voted.

Dave, I lived in VT a long time ago, probably before you got there, so don't tell me that I'm 'incorrect' because it's first hand knowledge. My wife also taught in VT.
Generalization...yes, absolutely.

Butting in to add that the skiing in Vermont aside from Superstar looks to be coming to an end shortly (without significant walking, at least). What was top to bottom on Nosedive last Friday is down to patches until the last ~500' of vert.
Still holding up up top.

All Generalizations are incorrect. This one as well.
Many people don't give a shit about politics, vote out of ignorance, and are some of the most committed community members and wonderful people. I feel sorry for your children if you only let them hang out with people who were most like them, or you. Voting for Trump, or adhering to neo conservative values out of ignorance is not an indicator of a bad person, just like voting for Bernie and being a far left socialist doesn't mean you're a good one. Divided is how they want us....seems like they have you scared into your herd, hating and afraid of the other herds pretty affectively.Last edited by DaveVt; 05-16-2017 at 08:06 PM.

Could you guys quit posting about skiing and get back to self-aggrandizing political ranting that makes us sound smart. Gawd! (replaces tin foil hat and wet blanket so that the internet spies don't get this neo-conso-lib-poop-sillipants).

You crack me up. I said I generalized! Yeah, if the a town is full of people that do not have similar values, politics aside, then I wouldn't want to live and raise a family there. Sure, they're nice people, but not where I want to live. Call it whatever you want, but life is too short to live in that environment constantly debating one view over another. I've lived all over this country and experienced many local cultures and they all have their pros and cons.
You are the king of generalizations in here with your anti resort, anti commercialism, anti almost everything it would seem. I don't always agree and I don't necessarily disagree with you either, but I know it's a generalization. Something you don't seem to see when others do the same.
When I lived in NM I was a minority (the one and only at one place of employment) and would drink beers after work, the guys would throw their cans on the ground littering. I'd pick them up and discuss why. They were all super nice guys, but just didn't really care about littering. There were no personal issues between us. They did their thing and I did mine. I didn't dislike them, but didn't care much to hang out with them because I was not smart enough to convince them to change their ways from littering. And some people just don't care to change...anything.
The good is we have people like Biggins and Hank moving into towns and teaching from a different perspective. Hats off to you guys. Teachers rock! It's such a meaningful profession that gives to a community and a society as a whole.
My ski rack is still on my car...one more...maybe two!

We have Slackfest so we can ski corn, hang out in the Sun, watch the children and dogs as we grill nice things to eat and slake our tremendous thirst. Kvetching is almost impossible with all that going on...
C U there
As of 12:44PM May 17. 2017
The Mt Washington Auto Road is currently open to TREELINE, 4.5 miles up at 4,200’ for all regularly-allowed vehicles, including motorcycles from 9:00am - 4pm. Due to the famously changeable weather and limited parking, there is no hiking up from the turn around point.
With cooperating weather, we hope to open to the summit for passenger vehicles later this week!Last edited by robrox; 05-17-2017 at 12:35 PM.

Yea, I mean living near people who think differently? Constantly debating different view points? Fuck that. It undermines our sense of exceptionalism. If we can't feel great about ourselves, and constantly be reaffirmed that our belief system is the most righteous then WTF are we doing? I want me kids to know that my way of thinking is the most correct and people with other views just don't make good neighbors. 'Merica.
(that was sarcasm)
Tourism sucks for Vermont (just like everywhere else). Resorts suck for Vermont. Tourists? Maybe I do generalize a bit. Apologies for that. It's noteworthy that you think Barre needs people like Hank to move in and save them from their backwards ways. Folks in Barre probably feel like they need saving from liberals coming in from out of state to change the politics of their blue collar town. Really what Barre needs is good people who want to live there for what it is, a nice Central Vermont town with generations of rooted residents who have pride in their history and have rolled up their sleeves and are working hard to keep their town vital, and maintain their identity. At least that's my take from getting to know folks from there over the last 20 years. It's an immigrant city that was built by people who moved there to work hard. I imagine it would be a very welcoming place to move to fundamentally, but not a place ready to be transformed by Boston liberals any time soon.
Also worth mentioning that Barre is Beautiful. Up on the hill East of town the views are amazing. The riding there is awesome, it sits on the front steps of the Grotons, perhaps the best kept secret in CVT.

As much as I would like to ski with E or B it looks like Saturday for me. Buttaflake is always fun to ski with, so much in fact that I'll wait for him to catch up. On the other hand chasing Goniff is tough i.e. one can be happily following 3 or 4 turns behind him and look up to see he has lit the afterburner and is now 10-12 turns ahead. I am sure the usual Lot 1 suspects will be there. I have 2 lbs of Gravlax curing for gating and the usual collection of brews.
Lets Party!
ps Haven't seem powbmps this season, he needs to show up and school us all.

Hank comes in here for some advice on the move, and Governor DaveNJ takes over and grinds this thread to poop. Good times. Hey Dave- noone is attacking Vermont mores, noone is shitting on the natives here, just pointing out the learning curve that takes place when one goes from weekender to permanent resident. You don't know SHIT about the Marble Valley or the NEK or any other area besides your own, so stop acting like the arbiter of all things Green Mountain. Is your name Ethan Allen? Justin Morrill? Joseph Smith? No? Then stop suggesting that you and only you know how things work around here.
Edit- I think I will be at Kton for some noonish laps boys. Giddy up.

I'll be up Friday - Sunday. Should be a great 3 days. Tuna and bison will be seared, corn will be harvested, and thirsts will be quenched with tasty beers.
