    No, choosefruit.

Northerly neighbor checking in with hopes of sliding in OR a little more this year.

Edit: what's the scoop for campering at Bach? Meadows?

    rad, glad you remembered!
So far this season I am pretty hooked on the GU packets... I bought a box of the orange-vanilla flavor and I double-fist them.

Timberline was great this morning. Although the road up, and parking lot, were skating rinks. I got out of my car and ate it on the first step in my boots. Directly on my ass. The plow driver saw it up close and opened his door to inform me that he too had eaten-shit upon exiting his vehicle this morning. He left with the parting shot: "it can only get better from here". Indeed. I carefully kitted-up and got my skis out of the roof box. I figured out the route to snow with the least possible ice-travel and gingerly walked the three steps to the snow in front of my car. WHAM! Ate shit again. This time I fell backwards with my left side/lower-back landing directly on my ski edges. The rest of my body did shitty stuff too, but I could only pay attention to my back. It was bad enough that I started sweating, head to toe, instantly. After about 2 minutes of deep breathing, moaning, and cursing, I stood up and evaluated. Stuff hurt, but did not seem to be broken. I crawled to the snow and Made the 2016-2017 season's inaugural click-in.

Skin up was fantastic. Sunrise over white river. Alpenglow. Untracked powder (here and there). It's good to be back. I made it to the top Palmer shack in 2:15, which is my best time by a damn sight. All that calorie-counting during the off-season seems to have paid off. At 8k ft I Ate a couple candy bars and some beef jerky and transitioned to hyper-fun mode. Downhill turns were made by following the good snow down the zig-zag side of things. Wind had obviously been out of the east earlier, so west-facing aspects were in the lee and accumulated the most snow. The skiing varied between "good" and "great" on the Standardized Ski Rating system, but keep in mind that it's mid-October. There were Definitely a few times that I made my "snOHH face."

I write its this on the couch with a frozen, vacuum-sealed, steak under my back. Wish me a speedy-recovery.

#1 - sick no hand method on that Burton asym, Adam.

#2 - powder fever is real and people are putting themselves at risk already...check out this report COAA just got...

    "Hello,

My name is Henry Lanman, and I, amongst numerous others, went out to enjoy the snow at bachelor today. After skinning the north flank, we traveled to the west ridge to see what the bowl looked like. Wind loading had created a large cornice (actual thickness is unknown, but the horizontal distance from the skier to the edge must to have been close to 10 meters) that cleaved to produce a class 2 slide with a runout close to 100m. The crown was around 10 m wide. This cornice is persistent all along the west ridge, and a there were tracks on it.

I want it to be known to skiers and snowboarders alike that, even though it is mid-October, things are still extremely susceptible. There is a lot of traffic up there right now, even on the upper mountain, and I hope people will read my observation before considering their tour.

I posted an observation to the COAA site. Have a nice rest of your evening.

    Cheers,

    Henry "

So get some, but Jeebus people, be safe.

Thanks for all the positive Ju-Ju, I woke up feeling much better and mobile. Looks like I didn't end my season on the first day after all!

Sorry about the upside-down pics... Everytime I upload a photo it renders upside-down... I was too hurtin' last night to try to do anything about it; I'll fix them at work today. Also hopefully I'll have a chance to look at video. It wasn't a gnarfiesta but it shure was puuurty yesterday.
