Yes and yes. I dig Caston's low and fast style. He skis like a cat and kinda reminds me of Darren Johnson's style back in the day. Caston is pretty small, but shows how to really put double metal 190-length boards to work. It's also sweet to see someone who knows his home mountain like the back of his hand send and rip full-speed at all times.

Indeed, mid-week chalky days like this are empty and fun to rip on.

Dude charges! Some of those straight lines and airs thru the tights, blind landings on hard pack are legit. Dig AC's pics on my ig feed too

I think the main takeaway from this video should be you don't need epic pow to have fun skiing. The industry is so focused on fresh snow that I think we've lost sight of the other 80-90% of the days on the mountain.[/QUOTE]

    So True^

I'd say -Snowbird is one intricate mountain...desire to charge lines like the Video shows is sweet-but consequences are Xtreme; if a skier tries that stuff ,and cant bring their skill up to that level.

The ability of Skiers and riders at Snowbird ,is top notch....and can be super intimidating>You'll know when You are Ready to try Crush some lines like that....and bring your Rock skis to da bird...even pow day the choke points get bare quick .

Thanks! As an east coast beater, I can relate to a lot of those conditions and love the way he gets after it. Home hill opening day is Friday

,Conditions in Video were pretty good actually...not pow lol uf course.

Snow is much less H2O content in Utah.....and some windblown leftovers ,will be way easier to shred turns on . By far some my best ski days were wind blown leftover on hardpack.

Some the slopes r to steep to ski, if totally iced! up-unless you want good chance go hospital. Video conditions were much better than many viewers realize.Heck-the Circe ridge barely showed rock at its entries.

caston has strong fundamentals. his race background shines through in his free skiing. there is a huge difference watching him ski vs someone like pep fujas or sammy c. and I wouldn't say one is better than the other but i'm a fan of technique and styles so comparing the skiers and looking at how they learned to ski (basically three categories: race, mogul, park) always fascinates me.

Excatly, he skis like he is racing all the time, which makes his hard pack/shit-snow videos extremely fun to watch, but his powder skiing a bit.........different, I guess. Even compared to other ex-racers like Ligare, Rhalves, maybe even Nobis.
Hoji was a racer as well, and they are pretty far apart on the style-spectrum.

Buddy is a charger. McConkey's mom says something about her son in McConkey (the film). Something about being trully in touch with his edges. Caston's skiing embodies that notion. Dude leans into it.

Seems dumb for the industry to market toward skiing conditions that don't exist most of the season, even at a place like Baker or Stevens that get a ton of snow.

No kidding, he knows how not only to use his edges but also bend a ski, if you watch he gets some incredible rebound out of some of his turns. Pretty awesome.

I love wind buff. Some days more than powder even.
These days I'm more likely to hit the resort on a day like in the segment, and be out touring on a powder day. Seems lately the powder days are more crowded, more of an operational shit show and it gets beat quickly. Storm days I like inbounds and lots of folks hit the lodge by 11AM. Chalk days everyone is out touring and I'm lapping similiar conditions on the lifts with no crowds. Tho, I don't quite hit it like that. Still, I love lapping these conditions and finding the buffed landings and going bigger and faster all day.

    fun vid.

Well...there is the leftover rotten snow, from the previous year, that is key cause of some surprising avalanches early season.

Backcountry skiers should be aware of this^

The snow flakes lose all crystallization and become rounded at the molecular level .

These old patches can catch patrollers off guard, even w their intimate knowedge of the mountain.

Srry derail- anyone have some sik Vids of the opposite ridge some monumental hucks and stashes there!
