They have the same type of core as the old LP Rider. It’s mixed wood and Rohacell foam. It’s not foam like people think, it’s really dense closed cell foam.

It's my go anywhere ski. I too decried the foam core but got some intel once saying they did indeed have some wood in them. Still unconfirmed.

Assuming they haven't degraded too much, I'll be stoked to have a fresh no brainer set of boards.

And $125, hell I spend that on the Dank in a coupla weeks.
Yeah, these are in pretty damn good shape. Not sure they've really been skied in the last 10-15 years, AFAIK. Just been sitting in a buddies garage - who hooks me up for parking at Highlands, so I told him I'd try to make a few bucks getting them sold. I think Djongo will be pretty happy with them and I think the price (effectively $100 for skis+914) is mag approved. Enjoy!

Hmmm, interesting, thanks for the confirmation. It's a pretty stout board and only mid weight by my standards.

I'm heavy and ski hard but try to go gently on the ski and clamp. Not averse to hitting rocks, just lightly if possible.
They seem to be damn durable too. Crushed some old kastle foamcores bitd.

If anyone is interested in a pair of flat 179 Fujatives (first year) HMU. They have one mount Salomon 900s (i might still have the old bindings in a bag somewhere) at around 315bsl. They have just a couple days on them.

Fat and free style history lesson

    So, a BIT of a collection….

From left to right, and MAYBE in vintage order?

    1) Rossi b-squad teams. 184 and 130/100/120 (stock was 189 or 194 only) This has real sidewalls, stamped tail numbers and different measurements to anything stock. The shorter team version of the XXXX.

    2) Spatulas. Ya, I have some

    3) Salomon 195 team AK rockets. Again all the team numbers and race room stickers.

    4) Salomon 200 AK rockets, with a hand made derby type lifter. Also came in the “ladies length” of 190

    5) Salomon 1080 team. 177cm Again team issue (stamped tail ser numbers and 916 bindings) Best history is was used by a camera person for heavy hitting films and canadian air force skiers

    6) K2 Big Kahuna (Not sure if the K2 or volk version, but again real sidewalls) Marker bindings, with brakes that dont fit, as no fat brakes are avail)

    7) Atomic heli star. 170 MASSIVE 115mm under foot, stiffer then needed, and the mount ALL the way back

    8) Atomic powder plus/fat boy, 180, Prototype, Base reads “greatest development in powder skiing since the helicopter” One offs made for MW hell ski as a guide/test ski. Of COURSE the offset mount

    9) first gen salomon S9000, 1S version, PR8. 197 ish. Matching bindings and yes, even the ski strap!

10 snow blades, cuz who doesn’t need them

    11) RD heli daddies, new in plastic. 180cm RD (sun valley ID) made the bag dog, then bad dog SL and GS, then the heli daddy (softer GS) and the bad bitch (ladies version)

    12) RD bad bitch, 190, Yes, first ladies ski made, in smaller sizes like this 190. Moveable ESS bindings to change your centre point (later atomic bindings)

    13) Olin Mark IV 180 ish. First public twintip ski

Always wished the 189 had these dimensions instead of the 104 waist. The 184 was a bit too short for mauling the mountain, and the 193 IM103 did it better than the 194 B squad. But 130/100/120 in a 189 would be ~27m radius, with a more manageable demeanor than the 194 for tight spots and still virtually no speed limit. C'est la vie.

And woe be unto he who did any touring on those things. Mismatch made in heaven.

The Vintage Ski Sale Thread (e.g. AK Rockets, Stockli DP Pros, Sanouks, Kahunas)

While mntlion has respectfully gone deep vintage, this is taking the thread to new heights for vintage freeride skis:

If I remember correctly, this version of the Kahuna was a Volkl Explosive with a K2 topsheet. My first foray into "Fat Skis" prior to the Rossi XXX

Back when I was skiing every version of the Explosiv that I could find, I had some of the K2 Big Kahuna with the full sidewall. Mine were a little narrower than the Explosivs. I don't remember if they skied any differently.

Also, the blue/white surfboard graphic Kahuna was totally different - - that was the one rebadged as the Made'n AK later.

Yep. The Volkl built (in Germany) K2 Big Kahuna - tons of metal and absolutely charged - I believe was built off the Snowranger dimensions which preceded the Explosive and was slightly skinnier. Maybe 80mm underfoot but I recall my Big Ks measured closer to 90mm. Could be wrong on some or all of this. Other than the Germany part.
