Did not even bother to look down halls as the apron all looked burned out last Monday at least viewed from Tallac and theirs been another week of melt since then but since the shot was taken with it in the shadows looks like more of the apron is there that I first thought with a closer look,
This is what Mini looked like yesterday looking down from the top

Ya after skiing halls we went back up to the top of draw and skied down lookers right to get out as there is more continuous snow there by the trees. The tight pinch in your pic now has a rock step in it.

morning was probably definitely the call.
me'n Vets hit up Historic Donner Summit at around 3:15.
Visibility was classic San Francisco Ocean Beach-styled fog and heavy mist (you could not see "Poop Chute" from the road).
After mulling over several options, we ended up skiing a super low-angle knoll right off the road.
Snow was about 4 inches of thick&wet on a packed, yet soft base. It was also starting to form breakable crust.
While we didn't kick off any serious wet slides, all of our turns looked like drunken snowboarder turns (it ended up looking like somebody raked the entire slope, instead of nice figure 8's).
Pretty sure steeper terrain would have slid.
Vets gettin' wet 'n sloppy
Our smears, I mean tracks...
From the looks of other pix I have seen from today, either Rose or CP were the call (I dunno wtf we were thinking!)Last edited by dookey67; 06-12-2017 at 07:48 PM.

Dookie's advice is spot on.
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

they (forest service) seem to be lagging on opening gates this year.
i can understand Castle Peak, since the snow still goes down to the paved road and turn-out/around area.
but Martis Lookout is still gated off 267, as well as the FR across the hwy (at least as of this past Sunday when I drove by).
guess i'mma have to get a bike!

Dub post but I was wondering if any of you have ever had any trouble parking (ie tickets/angry homeowners) out by the sherwood chair to access grouse rock and twin peaks?

Had the first half of the week off and got some surprisingly great turns in. The new snow was just enough to smoove it out and not make a mess. Pretty much an instant melt into the old snow. Teus went up to top stagecoach and then east peak. Continuous snow to the last big bottom bench. Weds followed tbc's lead and skied echo from angora rd. again the new snow made the laps in echo bowl top quality as was the out down angora bowl. I've seen many bears in tahoe but never on the top of a summit as I did on echo. He prolly just woke up in someone's cabin at echo lakes and was making his way back to the garbage of slt for the summer. It was comical watching him go down echo bowl on his belly and backwards kinda flailing. I think I have heard that bears dont run downhill well and I sure witnessed it first hand
