While waiting for the Gondi to open this AM heard a helicopter flying around, rumor was somebody spent the night out on the mountain and they were looking for them.

Guy had a cold night out last night!

Was hoping this was done purposely...and at Squaw. Something along the lines of "fuck you KSL, Ill spend the night up here to ski at 9 AM"

I think today was the best day of the year for me. Deeeeeeeeeeep at heavenly. Hit Maggie's at the end of the day and there were barely any tracks. Blower pow from open to close!

I figured today would be a good day to visit Homewood. And it was, freaking incredible really, but they only ever opened Quail, the southern base lift. Yes, light breeze hold at the HW too. A real crime for all those fine glades served by Ellis to be just sitting there in the morning sun.

Someone said something to the effect that all of HW's experienced groomers went to Squaw-Alpine, and the crew they have apparently can't deal or something. I saw a few mid-lift Ellis chairs partly buried; no one working on them.

So, outstanding fluffy today, all day, and it wasn't so crowded, but word is that it's just Quail for another day or two, so stay away until they get their shit together.

I thought about it this morning, but it looked like about a 15 minute wait...

That "quarter-station" also served another purpose: to lower the bar for opening day operations at Squaw.

I actually lapped that sonofabitch for an entire day one year... Probably 4+ hours.
    Still waiting...

Ah I though this was a reference to the double-decreasing-radius left hand turn just after the lake eastbound. At least once someone who optimistically passed me in the passing zone after the lake was going SUBSTANTIALLY slower than me as I rounded that 2nd bend, and it looked like he was dragging his bumper out of the snowbank based on the angle of the truck

Yeah, the pavement is totally beat to shit there. I find it worse coming westbound but I haven't been up there in a few weeks. At least I've got 17s for the snow tires so I've got some semblance of sidewall, but it ain't pretty.

Ottime said they stripped the pavement in November so we are driving on the bed surface. It's pretty gnarly now.

cool CHP shot of the Spur before they cleaned it:

That's the main access road to KW from the bay area, believe it or not. Pretty nuts, eh?

    TahoeBC is murdering it.

I shoveled snow all day yesterday and feel pretty crusty about it.

Anybody get their car towed from 89 on West Shore recently?
