Just saw the PM, nice job. Where you left the road is actually "sunken meadow". Nice lap!

Dropping into the sunken meadow made for a really fun exit, has not been coverage there for me before, skied pretty much quality vert right back to the bike.

Vid of one of the chutes I skied and my run down to the sunken meadow if your interested in coverage conditions in there at least at that point in time, things are changing fast

Weds followed tbc's lead and skied echo from angora rd. again the new snow made the laps in echo bowl top quality as was the out down angora bowl. I've seen many bears in tahoe but never on the top of a summit as I did on echo. He prolly just woke up in someone's cabin at echo lakes and was making his way back to the garbage of slt for the summer. It was comical watching him go down echo bowl on his belly and backwards kinda flailing. I think I have heard that bears dont run downhill well and I sure witnessed it first hand
Bears, like dogs, like to play in the snow. I don't think I'd want to be in a footrace with one, uphill, downhill, or sideways.

i can understand Castle Peak, since the snow still goes down to the paved road and turn-out/around area.
but Martis Lookout is still gated off 267, as well as the FR across the hwy (at least as of this past Sunday when I drove by).

guess i'mma have to get a bike!
Martis Lookout may be pretty dry, going West from the 267 gate is probably a muddy mess in places along that road. Was behind T.C. yesterday and the amount of water running and the mud puddles/holes were impressive, and that is lower elevation then road off 267.

Took a quick overnight trip up to Grouse Rock on Friday night when my roommate got off of work. Still surprised just how much snow is back there right now. Spent alot of time trying to cross some very fast flowing creeks but overall the snow was amazing on Saturday morning so it was a worth while night out.

The carry system has a strap that goes though your seat rails, I strap it in place in the front, strap in the back is just to hold the ski poles and the rear of the skis together.

Works well on paved/dirt roads, but the skis ride pretty high so it would be easy to have your testicles removed riding anything technical.

This is the carry system I'm using, how well it works probably depends on the bike and the size of your skis, but for what I use it for accessing gated roads to get to snow it gets the job done and is way better than having all that gear on my back while riding.

Any North Tahoe/Truckee folks have info on White Rock Lake (white rock lake road, meadow lake road, etc). I'm looking for current info for a bouldering/skiing/fishing trip starting wednesday (is the road open). also wondering if the sprinter might make it. it's got burly tires and high clearance but suffers from rear wheel drive and a long wheel base so abrupt or deep water bars can be an issue.
    Thanks

in other news, saddlebag lake resort off tioga pass is for sale. probably the highest elevation commercial permit in CA. anybody looking to open a bougie backcountry resort?

Fun little adventure on Echo lake today, got a late start so all I had time for was one run down Baldy, summer skiing conditions, then dragged the kayak up a couple slopes to ride down into the water, pretty fun day with a swim and a couple beers to round things out

    Ha!
    (from L.A. Times article online)
*For Stev Fagran, a 56-year-old schoolteacher from Wellington, Nev., the Sierra’s endless winter gives him a chance to build on a personal record of 164 consecutive months skiing, hunting out snow patches until the flakes fall again in September.*

Been awhile since I was out there (June 4th, to be exact), but at that time the main Jackson Meadows paved road ended in snow about 10 miles in.
Again, at that time, if you wanted to get to Meadow Lake, White Rock Lake, etc., you had to sled (I ran into several sled necks out there who had snowmobiled all the way to Fordyce and French Lake).
The road to Independence Lake was driveable if you have a mild clearance vehicle (say a Tacoma or higher), but had a flooded river crossing.
Just got back from a road trip to MT/WY, so am decompressing, but might get motivated to head out there later today or tomorrow to do some beta.

    NOT TAHOE,
but the Ruby Mountains are still holding and there's some great, relatively easy access areas up there right now, especially if you go up Lamoille Canyon. Banged out a decent run yesterday. Probably gonna start going fast since it was over 100 degrees in Elko and the snow-covered bridges over the rivers are gonna melt quick.

Thanks for the info it looks like it's still unreachable. We're gonna head to Loon Lake instead I just wish we were gonna be higher with the heat.

Bump because I am looking for CP info as well. Thinking of tooling around up there this weekend. How far does Forrestdale go? Is the gate even opened? Anyone been on Red, Elephant's Back or Round Top within the last few days? Sun cups?

I don't think forestdale is open at all because it immediately climbs to ~9k feet

road conditions are here but haven't been updated since 6/9:
