Check the Lassen/Shasta forum as well. But this is worth watching too:

They won't open. They changed it from the 11th to the 18th. And theyre still saying "weather and conditions permitting". My guess is they won't open until another storm rolls in and keeps everything cold.

I doubt they'll be able to open before the 23rd, the day before Thanksgiving. That prior weekend the temps are finally going to cool off enough for snow making but that's going to take a few days before they'll have a shitty little WROD. Mammoth looks to be somewhat decent though, all things considered.

Anybody have the quick down-low on the other swaps coming up? We still have a few gaps to fill.

    Cheers

That is A+ stoke. Great skiing and so cool that the guy rode it all in summer conditions 9 days before.

Did anyone make it to the retooled North Tahoe swap this year. Sounded pretty lame from the description. Too bad if that was the case--that was the premier swap in years past.

Was that the one at the school? I've also been to one at the Nordic center. Auburn ski club used to have one, too.

When I showed up 6 was a high speed quad and 7 was a fixed triple that ran from the road.

One of my favorite days ever at KW I got stuck at the Spur until 9:40ish. I pulled into the valley and could see 6 had popped. I decided to park over at TC, because there were plenty of spots, walk across the road and take the slow 7 up and over. I noticed as I was loading that 10 had popped and I was super bummed. Then I noticed that Sentinel was completely untracked. I decided to head for 6. Good thing, as 4 opened, and the hordes went that way. There were maybe 15 of us riding 6, and Sentinal and Pali opened. We had all that to ourselves for about 4 hours before the crowds returned from the back side. We set a mid/high road to Pali and would literally traverse/step 30' past were you dropped in on your last run. Endless pali pow.

Pali sure gets skied a lot quicker these days. I blame high speed and vail. And fat skis.

Actually a lift up Fawn Ridge, from the low point to the left of the 4 line.,would be a smart addition. That is some of their best intermediate terrain on the hill. And it would bump up nicely, instead of turning into traverse railroad tracks. Snow stays decent over there as well. I'm sure the west shore zone would get hammered with lemmings. As for boarders (and I see lazy skiers too) doing the holy grail; most never make it to the goods and just fuck up the snow for later.

And take out the rope tows. Top tow has not opened since Vail bought the place. The bottom tow was open for maybe 3 weeks this season. Pointless, and they barely move you up the ridge as it is.

Okay, I'm pumped to ski now.
Top tow was set up and ran last year. Maybe for a day? Not sure who was on it but they ran it maybe on a Friday when I was there. Perhaps I wasn't supposed to use it?

I am new to Kwood, Tahoe in general, but gladly rode two surface lifts last year, Vista ridge(not sure of th e names at all, top of 2, and 3? I think) and the the Wagon wheel J bar(again, no clue as to what they call it)? both ran at least a few days.

Which lift were you referring to Ott? Just curious...

Anyone know Jim Hames, he's a drunk recluse that lives on ski run and terry. He has rooms. Last I heard he was involved in police standoff holding his tenant hostage with a knife. He can be seen on the 1st of the month at the casinos. I got him banned for life from nepheles

Maybe. I was never gone for more than 10 days mid season and never saw it running or with pomas attached If you can't run a lift for at least two months a season, it is a waste of money and poorly placed. Ive said it before, those toes would be better utilized pulling people from the day lodge to the base of 1/11. They placed those lifts in a wind tunnel. Stoopid.

I don't think we have a J bar. Perhaps you mean the poma atop 4. IMO, all are a waste and were easy hikes. Vista gets skied out so much faster. Even when those lifts are not running, they seem to have indicated to people, who did not previously notice, that there is terrain worth hiking to.

The poma tows tho, are the ones that I was referring to. That bring you over toward fawn ridge. Partly a fail because they take so long to open that F R is already all traverse tracks from non hikers seeking the holy grail. (There, unused it

    Surf is pumping.

Those dogs seem to love their work. Powder day at Alpine, 3 women get on the Summit 6, patroller and his dog ask us to wait so they can board the next chair. At the last second the dog jumps on with the 3 women, leaves the patroller behind. Hey, no friends on powder days.

Ill second the surf statement, am in HMB, waiting to see when the mavericks thing goes down....I think we are talking about the same lifts at Kwood...mis-remembered the type of lift on that ridge furthest south, atop what I referred to as Wagon wheel? again totally unfamiliar with the names of most of the mountain, etc, but yes, that was a Poma(not J bar), and is almost completely unnecessary, though I prefer getting a lift in that direction if its available... while the tbar is directly above the top station of #2? accesses some fun drops right there, whether headed left after the tbar or right...
I hadn't really had the terrain knowledge to really have an opinion of where various lifts SHOULD be there, I rode those two when open and operatin' last year...anyone with any more info on chair 6? are we at a fifty fifty that it will be running on opening day? better odds?

Is this an event, or just a big swell coming in? I'm not a surfer, but am going to be in the area in the next couple of days and would like to watch if possible
