PSA: Alta now has no crowds.

I just saw this ad for Alta and it made me laugh. 90% of my ski days for 20 years were at Alta, but I finally converted to Soli 2 years ago because of the crowds.

I've often thought that if I were to move to SLC I might go with a solitude pass just to get away from the crowds. I would want a Snowbird pass though too just because I love that mountain so much.

Solitude isn't exactly empty these days.

Back on topic--Wow, it takes some serious gall for Alta to put out an ad like that. Even weekdays are often crowded now.

I find that the lines only get long on weekends, powder days, holidays, and anytime the LCC road is open.

Too many fucks fearful of bad conditions

    Wanting things to soften up

I cite 4plys request to change time for skioff.

When I was out there the conditions weren't great, but they didn't suck. There were no lines. People too soft
Like in whistler and conditions were fucking awesome but the mountain was empty because it was like 14 degrees or below 0 centigrade

Do you think you could get refund or rain check if you walked away on a day like This?

So, this picture of Vail on a really crowded day was posted 8 hours ago. Note that there's now no picture. Open it in a separate tab and you'll see that it was published on the VailDaily website and has since been pulled with a 404 error.

Alta does get crowded on a powder day or over holidays / holiday weekends. But on a whole Alta handles crowds pretty well. Even on busy days if you are willing to use the singles line the wait is maybe 5 minutes. The lines first thing in the morning on a powder day are crazy but once the crowd disperses its not too bad. Also, the way Alta holds terrain back, opening terrain the day after and the Castle the 2nd or 3rd day keeps powder opportunities available. Certainly Soli or Snowbasin will have more powder in the days following a storm. Alta's policy of making skiers work (hike) to get to some of the best terrain keeps powder stashes in place via the Shoulder, the wall, Gunsight, High notch or the East Castle when its open. This is my 7 year old granddaughter in Catherine's two days after a storm. Its there if you want it.

PSA: Alta now has no crowds.

I predict some of the biggest crowds ever this year. Best year for the middle class in a decade and high stock market, plus east coasters will especially head west, as people tend to book based upon the previous years snowfall.

Solitude for the win. Especially if SFB is giving private hut tours.

Maybe if you hike way out to North or South Bowls. But all those people are going straight to Stoke and most of them stay there.

it was funny listening to the bartender talk about touron traffic patterns there
and how 1% of that crowd will actually cross over the gnaria and into the banker killin zone
    i'd recommend it highly
and whaterz in the wooden cask above the bar
    i'd recommend a 2x shot
